Personally we have always felt that aquaponics pays for itself very quickly, but an independent review is far more useful to people rather than our own calculations.

BYAP Wins Sustainability Award
Backyard Aquaponics was announced as the winner of the small business category, in the Cockburn Council sustainability award.
The announcements were made at the Gala Awards Night last Friday. Last year Backyard Aquaponics was announced as a finalist in the same category, but were beaten by an organic fruit and vegetable supplier.

BYAP Workshops
We've been running workshops at our display centre for many months now and they're proving to be very popular. They are hands-on workshops that allow participants direct interaction with aquaponic systems, fish and plants. In a very short time you'll learn the basics about how to set up and run your very own system.

The BYAP Forum Photo Competition
Competition is heating up for the 2009 BYAP photo competition, forum members have submitted a wide range of photos, see some of the entries below. Later in the year finalists will be put forward for the forum members to vote on their favourite photos.

Dowerin Field Day
Backyard Aquaponics set up quite a large display at Dowerin Field Day. There was a lot of interest in aquaponics and how it all worked from people who attended the two day event.
The event was filled with everything from huge tractors and grain silos, down to small crafts and specialty foods. Aquaponics was making it's début at the show, in the past there have been hydroponic displays, but never aquaponics.

BYAP Magazine Now Printed
The fifth edition of the Backyard Aquaponics Magazine is now available in a printed format.
This is a big step forward for the magazine moving into a printed format, as well as the electronic editions. This offers people the choice of staying with the electronic format or moving to a glossy version which you can take with you anywhere you go.

A place to share experiences
In 2005 and early 2006 hobby aquaponics was still pretty rare, especialy within Australia and there were a lot of enquiries from people asking questions about the specifics of aquaponics. Rather than responding directly to individual enquiries, I had begun posting enquiries to an online discussion forum at www.aquaponics.com, after posting the enquiry I'd respond publically there so that in future similar enquiries could be forwarded directly to the online information.
