BYAP Wins Sustainability Award

trophy1BYAP Wins Sustainability Award

Backyard Aquaponics was announced as the winner of the small business category, in the Cockburn Council sustainability award.

The announcements were made at the Gala Awards Night last Friday. Last year Backyard Aquaponics was announced as a finalist in the same category, but were beaten by an organic fruit and vegetable supplier.

This year the competition was fairly tight. Cockburn is rather well known as an area with a high level of people following a more sustainable green lifestyle, and after the success and promotion from last years sustainability awards many people were keen to be in with a chance.

There were many entrants in all the different categories, and the Gala Awards Night was a night to remember with numerous tables of hopeful entrants sitting down to a lovely meal with drinks and a night of entertainment.

The categories within the sustainability awards were community groups, large business, households and small business. Each category winner received a trophy and the $1000 cheque, with the major overall winner receiving a cheque for $5000.

The award trophy was a beautiful piece of glass with the sustainability logo embossed into it. This was mounted into a polished hardwood base, with an engraved plaque.

Hopes are high for next years awards and Backyard Aquaponics have already begun plans for their next submission.
