... GB inputs (original egg shells - 5 or 6 total added about two months ago, were almost gone). Now it needs to be adjusted about every 5-7 days. I think the fish poop was breaking down and providing lots of NH4. With almost zero egg shells to help buffer the system, I would constantly get a pH ...

the bacteria are throughout the water column, as I understand it you couldn't isolate them to the growbed even if you tried think about creekbeds and shorelines...no real barrier from the waterbody, and the same thing is happening in AP the really interesting part is when you start ...

... of mechanical filtration first, then bio filtration, then the grow bed. I bit more complex than the standard tank directly into bed concept. I think when you are asking yourself what's right for your system, you need to think about how hard you are going to push the system and how big it is ...

... up. Alls you will have accomplished is stressing your fish. I know i am a pagan but i use a buffered media and my system is stuck at 7.8 ph, and i think it's great! you want/need ammonia and nitrite to be zero. Nitrates are higher than you would expect but if it's a new system and oplanst are not ...

... it, it still came back.. It spread to the whole raised bed and I am thankful that it hasn't managed to jump to the other raised beds. I wouldn't think about putting it into the aquaponic system. Do you have a picture of what the pipes are like? It is very hard to envision what your fill and drain ...

Shepparyon guy has very clean IBCs for $50 each. Buy 2 and you'd pay for your petrol from Geelong and still save. Had milk products I think.

There's a thread on here somewhere that talks about tilapia in a pond with snow around it. But I think they go better a bit warmer. :D

A 4ft high cool room seems a powrr hungry choice. Are you sure you haven't got a personal substation?

I would think that the ultimate conclusion is that it would be a waste of time and money, but if you want to waste your time and money doing it, then it won't cause major problems, however it is a step backwards in my eyes.

... Bought mine from Jaycar in kit form and had to solder up the circuit. I'm running it on a 30 min on / 30 min off flood and drain cycle, 24/7. I think I possibly oversized the battery and panel as it never seems to drop below 80% capacity, which will guarantee a long battery life. This photo ...

pH continues to fall, to 6.78 today, thats 0.6 down in 3 days, and looking like continuing, as the GB return water is at 6.69. I think I'll add a little bit of KHCO3 and shell grit to halt the drop.

Ammonia ~0.2ppm
Nitrite ~2-5ppm
Nitrate 10 ppm

... to get concerned. And by minimal readings I mean under the minimum on the chart. The choice to leave solids in the GB is still up for discussion I think bcotton. One benefit I have seen is to do with maintaining all possible nutrients in the system but this can be as easily achieved by adding back ...
