I've been reading and reading and reading... and I agree with you all that stated that I must have more GB. As I mention else where, I realised that the problem with AP is mantaining the fish healthy. And that is much more safe having an oversised GB volume. Don't know if I can manage that, don't got much space! Remember I got 40 5cm trout in my IBC. Soon my GB wont be enough to safely clear all the water. So I'm putting a low feed on my fish. Less feed, less pope, more chance of survive, until I put more GB or simple take off fish.
Another mistake I made, because I wanted the all thing running and didn't pay attention to the cycling period (actually, its a lot of reading, and that is a little bit desencouraging, specially couse I got a profession that I have to be reading and paying attention on numbers all the time) was that I've put the fingerlings 1 week after the beggining in the FT.
So, in order to the cycling don't kill my fish, and having no means of increasing GB at the moment, this is what I will do to try to go through this with no dead fish - please, correct me if I'm wrong:
1 - As stated, reduced feed to fish
2 - Try to change water from time to time. At the moment switching 2/3 of the water once a week. I haven't seen any abnormal behaviour in the trout, so I guess its fine for now - 2 week system now
3 - The nitrite spike comes around 2 to 6 weeks. So I probably will change the water often in this period. Maybe twice a week
4 - Fill up the GB with all I can in order to clear as much nutrients as possible
5 - Run on a continuous flow in order to try to decrease the cycling period
6 - Increase aeriation in FT in order to decrease the anaerobic space in GB due to continuous flow - correct me if I'm wrong, but nitrosomes and nitrobacter need oxygen, right? Think I've read it elsewhere
7 - Put stones from the place I've taken the trouts, in order for the water to have a bufered ph of the natural place of the trouts
There are other questions I want to talk about:
8 - Should I put a bio-filter in order to help? If so, where to put it - remember i got an IBC.
9 - About the pope, I was thinking of taking of the interfinal filtration of the pump (small sponge), in order to them to go to GB and not "use" the water oxygen needed for others (fish and bacterias)
And things I'm thinking at:
10 - My oxygenation is, for now, the coming back of the GB. I've cut the GB below drain a bit in order to the returning water put more oxygen in the FT - the higher the fall, it seems to put more bubbles in water/more oxygen. But I'm going to try something, when I got the time. It could function like a Refrigeration Tower. I've got some hot days where I live. So, I will need to cool the water in hoter days for my trout. What one need to do is to split the down flow in small water droplets in order to increase the area so the air can cool them more. It can be done by putting an obstacle right bellow the falling water (say a solid circumference of some material), the more away from the water surface in order to the small droplets have more fall, decreasing more the temperature. Before I check this, anyone got it already?
Big text... hope you bother looking at!
PS: Why no moderator let me have photos? I'm waiting for more than a week now...
