Location: Currently NC, moving to IL soon.
I remember reading in one of these postings that clear vinyl hose would need to be replaced before it caused problems, but they did not elaborate.

Anybody care to elaborate the problems with using clear vinyl hoses? (Please and thank you).

The concern is that the plasticizers in the clear vinyl will leach into the water. Because it is a closed system, the plasticizers could bio collect. I use it for my pump hookup. I'm not too concerned personally.

clear hose will also allow the buildup of algae, which will restrict the pump flow

Yeah a few reasons. Definately keeping light away from nutrient rich water would be a big one for me.

My clear hose is not in the sun, so it has not been an issue for me?

Yea, but that hole I had to cut in my car seat buggers up the resale value.

But the third arm hole allows u to collect the cup/toy/book/food dropped by your lil one without having to pull over.

i even had a guy at lowes, who was a huge dick, tell me what vinyl leaches. I wasnt expecting that from those guys.

i begrudge-ling use PVC on a few parts of my system, but i utilize black HDPE tubing from lowes for my pipes which transport water to my beds,

stay away from vinyl. i am amazed at how many hydro and plant and pond stores recommend using it for beer making, gardening, etc.

gotta love neil....when i was in water we had a name for the black tubing...exploding black plastic. it does not wear well from what i have seen. chemically the receipt you were handed a Lowe's is about the worse thing u can touch.
