i put 17, 4 to 6 inch catfish into my 5500 gallon backyard pond. doing great, eating worms that day. i go to bed, wake up and see a few swimming around, didnt see all of them but i assume they were in there, so i go to work. I get home and ZERO catfish....

How could all 17 disappear in less than 24 hours...
I saw no sign of racoon or bird tracks, and no chewed up fish. Absolutely odd. I have one plant so far, and one pump (i checked those to see if they were hiding there...nope. its 3.5ft deep, so they do have some safety buffer from birds. I would be able to see them, the pond is new so its crystal clear

what the hell happened!

I got a pond too. Blue heron is the one that took your fish.
There are few of them come to my pond and catch the minows.

You got to install a netting over your pond.

If you could see them then birds could have see then with one eye closed.

Around home we have very few yabbies in our dams because yhe water is so clear but in the first the water holes are essentially big muddy ponds and they are loaded.

catfish could possibly blend to the surround perimeter of the pond boundary... if they don't float they have to be some where.

Possibly they will burrow, and maybe break the plastic under stress....I would place a Bird Net tightly over the pond for any fear of bird scooping them out and eating in a preditory action....... The catfish will soon learn that the net is a protection barrier for their survival and might possibly eat close to the surface in time.

The catfish I had in the tank where from the " wild " local river, and I found to be quiet smart so to say , they will know :thumbright: when their habitat is safe
