Post subject:  IBC tote repair

Hello, I am thinking about building an IBC tote system in the spring. I might have a nice line on some totes if I can pull this off. I started talking with someone connected to a local pickling factory. They buy white vinegar In IBC totes and send the totes back to the supplier for more vinegar. However, every once in a while a fork lift driver holes or cuts the top of the IBC tote . In which case the tote can't be used for food grade uses in their factory. I likely can get them for nothing. Yet, how do I fix such a thing on a tote? I am sure someone has had to make this repair?

You can just use a plastic liner, or get fancy and try your hand at poly welding

If the damage is on the top of the tank it may not hinder AP use at all if you plan to use the tank as a fish or sump tank since you'd likely cut that part out anyway as a lid. If the damage is on the side of the tank other methods of repair would become necessary but even then... if you're getting them for free... you could always cut the top third and bottom third out of the tank and use them as grow beds. Get creative! :thumbright:

+1

some cut the IBC vertically to make 2 GB so a hole in the middle of any side could be trimmed around.

You could get more totes than you need.
Neaten up the hole cut a patch from another tote and weld or glue it in place. Don't be tempted to but join any patches ( it might look better but it does have a lot of pressure behind it)
Don't forget that the cage is a usefull item also.

Glueing is a touchy subject though.
Some chemicals in water, create unseen poisons that fish can accumulate and concintrate, others will just kill fish or much needed bacteria.
I've found that a hot glue gun works well for smaller patches
Plastic welders are reasonably cheap and fun once you get going.
Ibc s are easily weldable with practice remember to wear gloves, plastic burns hurt.
