OK - if you had 4 x 2000 litre Aquaculture tanks and getting 12 of Joel's Grow beds and piping, how would "you" do it.

Im a procrastinator and unless Joel wants another 30 minute phone call, i would "love" ideas :(

I want CF but would consider timed, im not a fan of larger sumps. Straight CF i would only need a BB as a sump if i couldnt drop the tanks lower than the GB's

I would like to incorporate DWC fairly quick as well (after the GB's) and obviously RFF/degasser etc straight away as well, not sure really if i want/need a bio filter (K1 etc) system. I also believe multiple systems would be better - possibly link 2 tanks.

Fish - im looking at Rainbows (done these for 4 years), Silvers, Cod and "maybe" catfish

Green house, im following Mantis and others and will do a hooped tunnel. Land, i have lots - + 30 acres and ample good rainwater

I welcome any good thoughts

Why would you want a degasser? I thought you wanted lots of oxygen in the water....

Easy for me, 2 or 4 constant flood systems. :D

Probably because all the raft type systems incorporate a settling tank (sorry.. "clarifier"...)... and a "degassing" tank...

I bet none of them can tell you what they're actually "de-gassing".... and/or why I'm... :sign5:

Yep... and remove solids... (so no need for a "degasser")... as well as stock lightly... and then you're going to have media beds.. as well.... :D

When asked.... most of those with "de-gassing" tanks... will suggest that it's to "off-gas" the methane....

But methane is produced... by anaerobic digestion... of the solids.... which have already been removed by the settling tanks and shadecloth/bird netting.... (sorry... clarifiers)....

Just make sure you regularly empty the "sludge" from the RFFs... and they wont go anaerobic... and produce methane....

Of course you could remove the sludge to another container.... a "digester".... and let them go anaerobic... and collect the methane...

Or make it an aerobic digester....

I've seen recent pictures of a "commercial" farm... where there was lumps of "goop" floating on the top of their settling tank... sorry.. I mean "clarifier"...

Because they hadn't been cleaning their shadecloth/birdnetting enough.... and they were producing... methane... (that's what causes the floating "goop"....

They should have removed the airstone from their degassing tank... and put it into their settling tank... I mean "clarifier"....

I would make 4 separate systems with 3 beds on each. I really think community tanks don't work after trying it for nearly three years. The aggressive perch take over and the other fish suffer. We have a good choice of fish here so one species in each, cod, silver perch and catfish and one system for seasonal fish, trout barra and jade perch

lol. I will run RFF and just start with 20 mm media in 3 GB's before the raft - that should do :)

Yep... run separate systems... especially if you're going to run separate species...

The reason a degassing tank is commonly used in DWC after a mineralization tank is as Rupert said, to off gas hydrogen sulfide, methane etc from Anerobic conditions... But it's not from Mis management of the mineralization tank...we purposely let the tank go anaerobic in order to off gas excessive nitrogen for fruiting crops which leads to increased fruit production. It also acts as a collection tank in the UVI model as the filtration scheme is split into 2 sides.

Though I'm sure some people just add it in b/c they saw it on the Internet...
