Hey everyone, im brand new to the world of aquaponics and i have done quite a bit of research (you tube, different websites) but havent found an anwswer to "cycle time" and after all my trail and errors to get to this point i really dont want to do that at this stage. So i get the 15 on 15 off or 15 on 45 off ect. For flood and drain. My question is has anyone tried to alternate 15 on 15 off for an hour then 15 on 45 off the next hour then back to 15 on 15 off again and so on? If so what are the pros and cons? How long should you keep the g.b. full of water? How many times do you want to cycle the full amount of water in your tank?

My set up: 55 gallon aquarium, 60 liters of hydroton at 12" deep drains at about 10 1/4" inches through bell siphon, 15 minute interval timer and all the other fun stuff.

The plants id like to grow: hot peppers, onions, cucmbers, tomatos, and 1 other random flowering crop.

Any advice is greatly apperacieted. Thanks in advance

It is often said that you need to turn over your FT volume every hour. How many minutes it takes to do that doesn't really matter. I consider that really only necessary for heavily stocked typically sized AP systems. With a really small system it is probably worth aiming for, as it is very easily done with not much energy usage.

I've never pumped that volume in over 6 years of operations, in my large system (9500 litre FT) I'm only circulating 11 mins per hour, and missing a few hours here and there due to a limited number of programmable cycles in the controller (15 per day).
With 200 Rainbow Trout I'm currently turning over just over 3 FT volumes per day, or about 1 FT volume per 7 hours.

With 15 on 15 off how long should the grow bed be full of water with pump still running?

It doesn't really matter, it will be determined by how much volume you are pumping in the 15 mins, and how fast it is draining.
