thanks LB,
pretty happy. It's a bit shallow, but conical on the bottom and slopes to a drain point. Will probably get another one and hook them together so that when the beds fill on flood and drain, the water level doesn't drop too much, and also, I hope to have one tank split in half for littlies and yabbies. Every 5 minutes we change our mind with how it will be set up. Want to follow joel's system as closely as poss, while accomodating slightly shallower than optimal water levels.

Monya :D

Looks great. Good luck with it. If you don't mind me asking: How much does an ex-milk vat cost? and how much water will one hold?

Cheers,

Duncan.

hey duncan,

we scored this one out of the back of an old milking shed for $200 - pretty much scrap for the stainless. It weighs about 600 kg's cause it's double skinned and insulated- a challenge to transport but once here, 2 of us got it off with ropes and chocks and steel pipes etc...
Holds about 1400 ltrs should be 1200 useful- it has a dipstick to show litres.

monya

That's not a bad price for a 1200litre tank :D plus it'll last ages.
Good job.

Cheers,

Duncan.

10 goldfish are now living in the system...took around three weeks for the water to become crystal clear..kept the water temp. around 20C and pH at 7.3 to get the bacteria growing quickly (thanks Steve) ..Noticed today that the seedlings have got all this new growth...seems like the plants are going to head skyward soon..
