There's nothing posted on the Okotau website saying they've ceased production...

But I had heard of recent batches into the UK being recalled... didn't believe it at the time as I couldn't find any recall notice or other verification...

But certainly the cannibis forums and some of the hydro shops are posting and twittering about the closure... since about a month ago...

And I'd certainly believe Joel...

The website still lists their "aquaclay" product... which is basically the same... but sold at about 2-3 times the price...

I've seen the Aquaclay... not a big fan of it. The quality of the individual granules looks the same as the Hydroton and it's classified as 8/16 like the Hydroton... but there is a LOT more of the 8mm size in each bag.

Story I've heard is that the factory will still be pumping out expanded clay, just under a different brand name. The bean counters and lawyers probably decided it was time for one brand to "go broke"... and another to rise from the ashes!
... :?

Looks like it has been 'cloned' from a BYAP system.

It was... back in 2009....by a guy in WA... who was a member here.... long enough to pick everyone's brains... and copy the BYAP stuff....

(He purchased a BYAP system... them ran off an talked to the tank supplier that Joel uses.... and copy moulded the grow beds)

Hadn't heard of him selling much stuff over in WA... seems he might be "branching out" into other states...

Are BYAP beds not covered by copyright?

Moved east from what I heard... And no, never sold a lot here, a couple of people have his systems.. which are basically our systems, copied, almost exactly...

No they aren't patented, and you only need to make a couple of minor changes to get around that anyway..
