Hi guys,

I have a failed aquaponic experiment that has to go.

I set it all up but found out the long way that the tank has to be larger than the bed volume.

Anyhow - I am offering the peagravel for free but you must also dispose (or keep) the wooden bed. It is kind of water tight (I think) and constructed by myself :D

I will keep the fittings and pond liner (so if I move to a larger place I can build a proper aquaponic setup).

To get all the gravel I believe you will need a trailer, a wheelbarrow that will fit the doorway, a shovel and some muscle. I am happy to help out for a couple of hours. All the peagravel & the wooden bed must go together.

My number is 0439 696 242

Thanks,
Matt

You are already over it I can tell.... but... there is a good chance it also failed due to flooding the bed. You shouldnt be able to see the water rising above the media like that. Also, Its easy to cut back on stock levels... why give up? A little guidance and you could have a very productive system there.

I might be misunderstanding here - I thought the grow beds ideally would be larger volume than the fish tank unless you want to severely limit your fish stock? I've seen posts about systems on here and other sites with 1000L FT's and 4 IBC GB's.

My impression (I'm fairly new to all this) is that you go for as much GB as you can to provide better filtration.

You're right - from my understanding, GB usually shouldnt be the limiting factor, but I only had space to put a single blue barrel. I mean the system was up and running but my pump failed and the water all drained out. So I went with a constant flooded system by filling in the holes. I had a chat with a few ppl and feedback was that for a growbed of that size you'd need more than a single bluebarrel.. what do you guys think?
