Too late TC, bought a GOOD mincer just for making fish food last ime i did it:)

GLR, let me clarify, I was very activly trying to source the pellets, then was discouraged by how bloody hard it was to get in small q. then have decided to put my efforts into home made after doing the research on ethoxyquin.

Can be a bit hard when you dont know in what order the posts were made ;)

PS silvers will take flake easily

Steve, is it a hand propelled mincer (i have no idea what to call it heheh)? What type? I bought a hand mincer (for other meats, not hands  ) to make stuff for my kitten before he grew up enough to eat raw bones... I wonder if it'd do the trick? I don't have a blender though...

Will you be blending as well? Do you have a specific recipie? If you've already outlined all this in detail, just tell me to go find a clue!

Visualizes Tim the Toolman with exploding fish/shell/veg/worms in the kitchen just as wife comes home from a hard day at the office.

It was a sunbeam mincer. electric style, got it new from ebay.

My recipe was: 22 silver perch that died due to power failure and were frozen (waste not want not :))

12 prawn heads

garden greens like silverbeet and spinach

1 lemon ( i think i was thinking about Vit.C being a antioxidant)

a tomato or two

then added chook pellets which absorbed most of the water.

I first put every ting through with the largest die fitted.

once i had minced all the ingredients and mixed them, i put it through again with the smallest die fitted.

dried it out infront of a little heater. and bagged them into the freezer.

Findings:

it is sinking food

if not dried it will go mouldy and stink VERY quickly (summer would be the best time to do i think)

Once dried well and frozen, i take out about two cup fulls at a time and it lasts outside (takes me about a week to use that amount) with no signs of spoiling.

Steve
