It's a bit more complex than a siphon, but I'm still using two of my automatic flushers in my my growbeds.

had some requests for diagrams of how to do a raft system.
I'm no expert on this one but here was my quick take on a basic flow layout.

And another diagram. This would be using gravel filled containers sunk and plumbed at the appropriate levels to act as extensions to a sump tank as well as being grow beds at the same time.
Image

And not all these drawings are mine, many of them are just diagrams I found throughout the forum that I thought we should stick in one place to make them easier to find. I can really only take credit for the idea of making the thread, not all the drawings. many of my drawings are little more than rectangles.

So, whenever you find a good diagram that you think might be useful for aquaponics, put an image link for it here!!!!

And if we want this sticky, we might need to ask a moderator or or something.

Just ask somebody nicely if they can sticky it. It's worth it.

Actually, I quite like that system.
I'm debating using a simple auto-siphon with the grow-bed over the top or a side-by-side setup with a sump...
This one gives me the comfort level in knowing the fishtank will have plenty of water...

i have this setup of AP and the water flow is continuous. is it ok?

We should perhaps take discussion about continuous flow to another thread. When you say continuous flow, do you mean......
trickle of water through the gravel and draining directly so the bed never floods?
or
Continually flooded?
Or
Continually pumping but the bed floods and drains by the use of a siphon or flout or something?

well,it is a continuous flood and drain system..

LOL! that it is [:

I have a question about a SLO ~ what exactly holds the pipe up?Is it free floating? It looks like the water obviously gets sucked up from the bottom and over flows etc.Nice and simple~ but I'm scratchin my head on how the pipe isn't just pushed around by water or fish etc? Does it need to be glued some how or???
Thanks in advance.I see all these diagrams and even tried youtube but I haven't seen any actual SLO's "live and in action".Not even a picture :dontknow:
I'm assuming a bulk head at the overflow height?
