Don't know how much the aquaculture system would cost but this CC TV surveillance system http://www.shop.ellipsesecurity.net/pro ... egoryId=76 could possibly do for around $1000us I am willing to spend $2500 on monitoring.

That system has motion detection and timed recording and play back, I could autofeed and have a playlist of each of the 80 tanks at feeding time. 5seconds a tank for 80 tanks is just under 7 mins of video vs. 30mins of hand feeding.

To go further would mean messing with software I am not really interested in that.

The pump I am looking at is this one,http://www.berkeleypumps.com/ResidentialProduct_Series_Frame_SolidsHandling.aspx do you think it's my best fit?

Goodluck. You are not Magiver and we don't live in a make believe world.

I thought you were living in an area where labour costs were low? I thought that one of the purposes of your business was to provide local employment?

A much better investment that would serve you well is a good textbook on Recirculating Aquaculture Design.

Labor cost is constant therefore reducing it pays off in the long run. The aim is to design a system that can turn a profit on 40 labor hours a week, all for around the cost of a nice sadan. I think Aquaponics is something more than just hydroponics + aquaculture. Using ONLY RAS knowledge to find the solution is one of many ways and a path many have gone down. I prefer to look at all my options in the planing stage, later in planing i will buy a timmons to verify and fine tune. until then I just have the internet.

Edit to add

The cheapest IP cameras I can find is $40 each 80 would cost $3200 there goes the budget....... Return on investment on this should be easy enough to calculate.

But that is the problem Damian you are not looking at all your options. In fact almost every person who talks about commercial aquaponics shows a serious lack of understanding of the principles and advantages of using RAS technology in an Aquaponics system.

All of these systems have one VERY obvious problem with their system design that will effect their ability to be profitable. If you have read Timmons you should be able to pick it.

I don't know how many times I've said this to how many people but before you decide to NOT use a component, technology or method you need to understand what it does and how it does it.

How else can you possibly asses that your new and novel idea or method is superior without any knowledge of what you are comparing it to?

All of those systems could be using liquid O and you wouldn't be able to tell from the photos.

I doubt it but for all I know one or two of them might be.

Come on Stuart no even a hint?

Calculations for reduced labour cost saved by useing auto feed and video monitoring.
Let's use a 4 year ROI. 4 feeds/day at 30mins each = 2hrs/day. Total hrs feeding for 4 years = 2912hrs at $10/hr = $29120
Let's say the video is 10min long (easy math) that means you save 2/3rds of your labor cost or $19413.

One of those pictures uses an auto feeder so by logic that is not it.

I've talked about this in other threads, wrote a very long post about it a while ago.
