Hello,

I have a 40 gallon tub with some fan tail gold fish and two grow beds. My Ammonia, PH, and Nitrate levels are all good for the fish and plants. I currently have Basil and Bell peppers growing. The thing is, they were transplanted from soil. Thinking that AP would essentially make the plants go into hyper growth, I have the opposite. They have basically stunted, with a few new leaves here an there. Also I threw in some spinach seeds which all germinated and now have died off. I have a 140 gph fountain pump supplying my grow beds of clay aggregate. The setting is as low as it can be filling the grow beds once every 20 minutes. What's wrong?? Should I be turning off the pump periodically for a couple hours? Any feedback would be great.

Welcome to the forum SunnyZephyr

How long ago did you transplant them and what was your water temp when you did? What's the water temp now? If you don't mind it would be good to have the actual readings as well. Last of all how about some pics from a little closer to the plants - the leaves look a bit light in color and I'd like to see what's going on there (whether it's starting at the top or bottom of the plant, things like that).

Cheers

I noticed you were having some troubles getting the image going at first so here's a post that might help if you still are - http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=21754

Hello Scotty435,

Thanks for taking an interest in our system troubles. I have some more pictures for you to look at. We transplanted the two plants you see in these pictures about a month ago. The water temperature is 72 degrees now and at the time of transplant. Over the past couple days we have done multiple 20% water changes due to high Ammonia and high PH. The PH and Ammonia have come down but another water change is going to be needed. Our PH is right now approximately 7.2 and our Ammonia is around 4 ppm. I'm pretty sure the acidity of our water is the reason our plants have stunted. What I want to know is why our germinated plants are only germinating. We water the bed using a water can at least 3 times daily when growing from seed...

Well I will post pictures later... have to run and forum isn't picture friendly....
