that was the only issue i had with those trout was quite a lot of genetic deformities. i wonder if it comes from inbreeding?

doubt that the kink came from hitting the side of the ibc, mine do that constantly and have never had one happen but did get a couple in the 300 fish i bought from them.

Poor guy cant really swim anymore, which was why i thought maybe an injury - instead of moving sinuously, he only seems to bend in the middle. either way i think he's the cats dinner, its a shame because the colouring is bizarre.

I'd say it's come more from lack of culling off the fish.

I know with goldfish, you need to cull off a heap of the fish that don't develop the gold colour, more than half apparently.

Probably how they can sell them so cheap for such large fish.

Didnt know that about goldfish col! personally i like the 'painted' better anyway! Dont know if any of our babies are even gold... But i think natural selection doesnt work so well when even the dodgy fish can get their fill of food - and no predators to thin out the slower fish etc.

It takes a lot of selective breeding to keep them golden.

They won't be spotty, they'll just revert back to grey carpy colour. A handful of the ones that made it into my DWC bed, half of them aren't golden, the other half is carpy silver grey colour.

we started with some spotty fish, so we have spotty fry - but ur right, i cant see any golden fry in there, and there are a couple of hundred. Btw it must have been an awesome surprise to find fish in your dwc bed!

have now purchased
1 x 1000 l IBC
1 x 500 "
3 x 200 "
plus 3 strawberry vertical tubes, 4 horizontal tubes and bits n pieces.

Hi Tonzz

My system is available any time just PM. It is in need of some more attention but I think we all get the problem from time to time.

Hiyall, been a long time since I was on here. My AP system is running nicely. I have about a dozen silver perch in one and some gold fish in another.

If anyone is going to order more trout, I'd be keen to get 20 - 30 or so.

Steve

I have a similar sized system, and am always happy to have a visit from a like minded fish and veggie growing type person.

Well you've come to the right place. You will find everyone most helpful.

We just drove through your lovely bit of the world after spending some days on a couple of paddle steamers, and messing about on Putt-Putt boats for a bit over the last few days as part of persons more skilled than I at raising money to restore the PS Canally.

I thought my efforts were best concentrated on drinking nice reds to raise money, and in my defence, I did do quite a bit of it so I feel I contributed substantially.
