Hello, I'm from Johannesburg.

Started getting into Aquaponics about a year ago and built my first IBC Aquaponics system this year.
Building a big fish pond in my back yard now and going to make it an Aquaponics system also.

I'm here to learn and share what I have learnt so far.

Here is a picture of my first system.

Hi All

I'm in Cape Town, and started an IBC AP system a couple of months ago. Have 12 Tilapia and a couple of goldfish (that I stole from my mom). Plan on building a bigger system in April, haven't designed it yet, but have a useless, narrow, sunny spot on the side of my house where I can house it. Getting a lot of interest from friends and family, so I think I'll be building a few of these in the next few months.

Cheers
Kev

Hi

Just joined the forum today and am only starting out. My first tank is on its way so I have my 1000L fish tank sorted. Must still decide whether I cut up more tanks for bed and sump or whether I try and source other vessels for that. At the cost of a 1000L tank it seems a waste to cut them up.

As I am in Cape Town I was wondering whether our winters are too cold for tilapia. There is a supplier of Mozambique Tilapia close by and I am sure they will do well in summer. Otherwise trout are an option but am worried they die too easily.

Dudes I'm in Durbanville, Cape Town. :wave1:

I have built a system - 3 Grow beds (2 layers of black stone 19mm on the bottom, 13mm on top)
I have an 900l tank with a 600l sump. Beds are fed from the tank overflow via a swirl filter
12 days into my cycle, planted my beds last weekend.

No fish yet running wizz at the mo - 1l / day Nitrate was 50mg/l this morn

Need some Tilapia, anyone know where i can get. :fish: :fish:

I attached a pic of my system as it was before planting.
And a pic of my swirl filter 'cause i think it's cool 8)
My phone takes kak pics in the dark so will have to wait for the weekend, not much daylight left after work.

Hey Willem,
Thanks.
One of my pals on the bike forum is also building a system. He's based in Gauteng somewhere.
