This was the 2nd largest from last night, 2180g and 540mm long. The big ones are so big that it's difficult to hold them. Just as well I can tickle them and lift them up to dispatch them with a whack on the head. The biggest one mentioned in the previous post was 575mm long.

that's a lovely looking fish! 1.4kg pellets/day, wow, that's some gutsy fish.

Awesome Gordon I’m very jealous as I lost all mine in our heatwave last week.

Sounds like you need a chiller Liney! Mine would have died weeks ago in the hot weather.

Were you adding anything to slow the pH drop? The bacterial action naturally causes the water to go acidic by the release of H+ ions when ammonia is converted to NO3.

Even though I've been topping my system up with water that's full of minerals, with a pH of over 8, I still add K2CO3 daily. Over 100g/day required, 140g today as I'd only added 80g/day recently.

I luckily had Mr Damage come over and advise me on what and how much carbonates etc I required and how often so next season should have all my landscaping finished and the system permanently running how I want it. I’m actually getting another 500L growbed tomorrow to help with the ammonia levels as well as more opportunities in what to grow.

This was a male, but sadly I lost about a dozen similarly sized females in Sept to early Oct. They appeared to be bursting with eggs.

A fish of this size fed a group of 11 people last xmas.
