A place to discuss aquaponics

I have a 1000L Ibc tank for the fish, a 800L Ibc tank for my sump and a grow bed 8' x 3' x 1'. My question is what size of pump should I use.

We are using a 3000 litre pump on systems that size, and optional flood and drain or continuous.

i have a devil 4000 running mine, its got more than enough power to run the system currently and when i expand the system to more growbeds and sumps

Faye why such a large pump? I thought turning the water ever hour was all that was needed, so in his case a 1k litre pump would be what he needs. I don't know, just asking.

It gives you the choice to run on a timer 15 mins per hour gives you 750 litres turnover. It means that you have more option to expand, and we know that often happens

Most pumps are rated at 0 head helomech.

True, right now my temporary grow beds are at 7 feet of head. It cut my pump way back.

Have to agree with Faye.. go 3000lt/h pump.. just make sure that the pump is very efficient, as in Low power consummation is the main thing that I try to push..

Also Faye is correct there is a great chance that you will expand..

Have you had a Look at how the system will Look as a finished product and have you decided on how you are going to run it..

Head height is from the surface of the water to the height being pumped. Is that what you measured Helomech? I talk to a lot of people here in the shop that aren't aware of that fact, so I just want to make sure. Just ignore me if you already knew that.
