Thanks for the comments guys, City Roots I think the moderators have sorted me out but thanks for the advice.

Flipper thanks for the encouragement and I see that you're almost a local and living in Creswick it's a great little town, I haven't been there for many years but I reckon it would have only improved.

Joe

Thanks Charlie, I think setting up the system was the easy part, running it and keeping the water right maybe a far bigger challenge.

Right folks I'm ready for a little more advice, I'm not a 100% sure if the system has cycled or still has sometime to go.

12 Goldfish and 24 Feeder Fish were added to the Fish tank 08/04/2013 (Sacrificial Fish)

Here are the water tests so far:

10/04/2013
PH: 7.0
Ammonia: 0.25
Nitrite: 0.0
Nitrate: 0.0

15/04/2013
PH: 6.6
Ammonia: 0.25
Nitrite: 0.25
Nitrate: 0.0

21/04/2013 1 Dead Goldfish
PH: 6.4
Ammonia: 0.25
Nitrite: 5.0
Nitrate: 4.0

22/04/2013 1 Dead Goldfish
PH: 6.4
Ammonia: 0.25
Nitrite: 5.0
Nitrate: 4.0

What I need too know first of all is has the system cycled? or at what stage is it at, the readings have been the same for the last 2 days, how long before I should see any change?

Thanks in advance
Joe

An update on the plants:

The Chillies and the Capsicums haven't done too well do to lack of Ammonia & Nitrate because I was just feeding them with Seasol until I could stock the fish tank with some Sacrificial fish.

All the other plants are all doing OK.

I removed the old tree and put up a shade sail to keep things a bit cooler.

Today's reading looks like things might be settling down and hopefully getting nearer cycling.

27/04/2013

PH: 6.0
Ammonia: 0.0
Nitrite: 0.0
Nitrate: 0.0

One more dead Goldfish, I haven't lost a Feeder as yet they seam to be more hardy than the Goldfish.

I'll add some Shell Grit to raise the PH a little and see if that helps.

An update on the progress, it's rained here for over a week so that has slowed things down a little but I'm nearly there now.

I moved the sump over approx. 800mm to it's left and cut two 50mm x 50mm Galvanized square tube support rails and bolted them to the IBC with a couple of pieces of 25mm angle iron.

I used a sash clamp was hold the IBC sides in until I got the weight of the growbeds in position to stop the IBC sides from bowing out.

Then when it was all leveled up I added the 2 growbeds and raised the fishtank.

I started a spare pump in the sump and transplanted a few of the plants down into the new GB and made sure that it all ran OK.

The dirty water is from the clay pebbles I found it was just a waste of water washing them so it was better to just let the system take care of that and I could run the spare pump for a few days before I needed to pump it up into the FT and by then most of it had dissipated.

When the water had cleared I thought I might add some EDDHA Iron Chelate and check the affect on the water before I pumped anything up to the FT.

That was a level teaspoon into 400 odd litres I don't know how the fish would fancy that? I don't think I'd like to swim in it.

To add a bit more aeration I added a piece of 25mm tube and drilled a few holes in it to help the fish, I've purchased a air pump on eBay that has gone missing in the post, the company has said there's another on it's way and that should arrive in the next day or so and that will improve things in the FT even further.

It was then time get the other GB down in position and raise the FT. A bit of tuning and it's now up and running, I'll stock up the plants and it should be all fine.

Once again thank you all for your guidance and encouragement.
