A little help please

we brought 20 Goldfish to help keep the system happy until we could get some new trout.

They have been expiring at a rate of 1 - 2 a day. So thought it best to test the water.
PH 6.8
Nitrite 0
Ammonia 0
Nitrate 40

any ideas on what might be happening. We have had a few hot days, however the goldfish that are in the goldfish pond elsewhere in the yard dont seem to have a problem.

The water seems clear, the plants dont seem to have any defficencies that i can tell. Got some caterpillar issues but that is about it.

Any ideas are welcome.

What do the goldfish look like, as in any signs?
What is the water temperature?
Symptoms (behaviour), pictures/ And have you added any salt

Here is the casuality for this morning. They seem to be going overnight.

Sorry cant tell you the temp. Nothing to measure it with. Cool to the touch though.

try feeding them a bit of your trout pellets crushed up... it looks a bit skinny. Ask the aquarium shop where the fish came from ie imported from China or Australia.

I would suggest that the water temperature is too hot for the goldfishes...

I had another smaller AP system with goldfishes and kois die for no reason... they have survived winter/spring without any problems... I believe the water temperature was the main cause...

I too have a tank with just yabbies and goldfishes in there... not a re-circulating system with growbeds... so similiar to your goldfish pond... those goldfishes not only survived, they breed... temperature was about 26degC when the AP system water was 34degC...

The AP growbeds are big heat exchangers due flood and drain or even just gravel that are exposed to heat... they heat up the water and hence the fish tank water over the course of the day.... consider continuous flooding... it may help... and maybe get yourself a cheap tank thermometer....

we have started to feed them on the trout pallets. I think some of them may have been to silly to eat. Found a few hiding under the bottom of the biofilter. shall see how they go. No deaths today.
