Thanks Axl, any idea how often you go through a 25kg bag for the biggies? Just trying to get a feel for what I might be up for...

You guys must be knocking back a fair bit of fish, but it would be nothing to what you'll able to eat this time next year. I bet you are finding lot's of new ways to eat fish - I know I have been and have have had nothing like th quantity that you guys have. Good work.

Hi Jaymie! I was reading "Bringing it all to the Table" and saw that you grew your own mushrooms (I remember that from reading your thread too, but that was a few months ago). Is there any info or tips you can give me about them? Anything is great as i dont know much about it. I have seen the boxes you can buy which are filled with spores, but i think i remember you saying they grew under your tank....

I have grown the ones in the box before, they went alright but I prefer the last lot we grew. We got the older mushroom compost from a local mushroom farm (they turn it off every couple of weeks or so) and put it into smaller, lower containers so it would fit under the biggest growbed, for shade and space reasons. It got watered enough to keep it moist, we had a carpet skirt around the bottom of the growbed to also reduce the light (as well as to soften the blow when your shins hit the steel rim)and we got quite a few feeds off it, as well as getting use of the mulch when it had finished being any good. Some of the mulch we put straight into the dirt garden and we also took mushies from that as they grew out as well. We will get some more this winter as well.

Axl

Hi Axl,Im back!(had a problem with my computer screen, well,a problem with windows resetting my computer screen   ) That is too cool that you can get the compost with spores already in it! We dont have any farms like that around here that I know of. But its spring now so the MOREL mushrooms will be popping up in a few days. :D I have not tried the box mushrooms yet, I had not heard of anyone I know trying them so I guess I thought it might not work (buyer beware  ). There is a thread on here somewhere for greenhouses that also sold mushroom growing buildings, that was neat, had saw nothing like it before. I like your chook cover idea (vines) in your other thread :D ! You two are doing great stuff! keep up the great work, you are an encouragement to all of us! Thanks for the info! Ed
