PostPosted: Oct 30th, '08, 17:39
Thought I'd throw some pictures up of Neil's new system....

He's only just moved into the new house, hasn't got the internet on yet and has recently undergone some back surgery...

Hasn't dampened his AP spirit though... and today he became the first NSW recipient of BYAP products...

Hope your back gets better soon Neil... so you can ya back into it... and finish it off... :D

Ta Rup

Great job getting all the gear around the back of the house and thank for putting up the pictures. What happened to the shot of you with the BYAP shirt on.

I will put up more progress shots when our internet connection gets put in at home.

My brother did the digging; having a bad back is a brilliant excuse for delegating.

Finally got access to a computer.

Some progress pics, nearly finished, just need to put some timber around the fish tank IBC to make it look pretty.

My brother pretending that the hole is a lot deeper than it actually is.

End view of the whole system and side view of the tank and sump.

Way to go Neil.... see you went the "bell siphon" route.... looks to be working pretty well...

Doesn't look like you had to raise the FT that much... 8) ... Guess I'll have to talk to you about some fish soon....

What are your covers made of??

Actually... re : fish.... I'm dropping into Aquablue on the way back to pickup some mussels and 100 more Silver Perch.... small ones....

You want me to get you some while I'm there??? PM me back here as I'm away from home...

Looks good Neil. How tempted were you to drop the IBC on your brother ;-)

Ta to all for the kind words

I lowered the grow beds by 4 inches and raised the tank by a brick width. This gave me some fall out of the tank. Also my wife is quite short so the grow beds are at a better height for her now.

How could I ever drop an IBC on my own brother, the thought never crossed my mind

Sorry Rupe forgot to answer the cover question.

The covers are made out of cool room panel, basically it is styrofoam sandwiched between powdercoated aluminium. Really really strong, you can stand on the stuff.

Is this a CHIFT PIST system? How do you remove solids from the fish tank? Looks very clean.

It is CHIFT PIST, and usually the overflow from the fishtank is drawn from the bottom of the tank.

IBC's dont really need a bottom pickup if there is enough fish though.

+1 for it being CHIFT PIST.

The pipe at the top of the fish tank goes into a T piece and the pipe then goes from one side of the T down to the bottom of the tank. Solids are drawn up from the tank floor and out.

I find that if I put my hand over the other side of the T it turns into a syphon and really draws any excess rubbish out of the tank.

Hi All

Just some pics of the plant growth.

Plants have been in for 1 month, growth has been awesome. Lots of AP salad or as my brother called it "fish poo salad".

Cheers
