It's been a while, here's an update.
The tank that I had ordered, the one that they were going to have by xmas, didn't happen. Every week I was told "It will be ready next week". Mid Feburary and it still hadn't happened so we called it off. It's been busy round here and I didnt think I was going to get organised before winter, then I got a new job with more pay and some backpay from my old job which was enough to get me a slightly bigger and more expensive tank.
Had to dig a bigger hole...

From memory the tank is about 2.3m long, 1.1m high, 0.58m wide, and 1400 litres. Weighs 75kg. Got it filled up today and turned on the pump without conecting the pipes just to circulate the water a little to blow off the chlorine. (Does anyone know how long it will take before the chlorine will dissappear?) Tomorrow I'll connect up the pipes, buy some gravel, and get the thing ticking over.
Hey Monya hows my fish going?
It's funny but when I turned on the tap I got this strange feeling of excitement and anxiety ... hell I hope this works or else I'm in big trouble!

KE14, chlorine takes ~24 hours to blow off, (chloramine forever).

A lot of states are changing to chloramine so the best bet is to get a bottle of water ager/chlorine remover - buy it at any aquarium shop, woollies or even "B"

KE,

your fish are doing fine, voraciously hungry and calling out "david, come and take me to that flash new tank!"
