I had a proper HSM on the weekend. Went down to the hardward briefly and came back to find water being nicely pumped onto the ground - had twisted the hose that feeds the strawberry tower around but hadn't turned it off. Hence, i did another water change - of sorts :shock: 8)

Thanks to my HSM last weekend i've now managed to dump enough ammonia laced water that the system is under control. Figures today;

pH: 7.4
Ammo: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 10

So, now i've got the thing balanced i think i should be able to stock it properly - with a decent chance of something surviving!! :wink:

I'll post photos soon of the growth so far - it has been phenomenal :cheers:

Hi Chatty I grow Marron and have friends growing Yabbies, Marron and Yabbies are ok in PH above 8 and the fishwa site will give info on this, ammonia is what is killing them, I had a spike to 4 with ammonia and couple of Marron died that week, I also have other Natives like Pygmy Perch and Stripped Minnows and they also are happy with PH which is at 8.2, I have also tested dams that grow Marron and others with yabbies and all are over 8 ph

I think i'm over the hill finally :cheers: .

A dose of humonia on Thursday and 25 ml of Seasol concentrate (equivalent to 1 cup per 1000L) and i've returned the following figures;

pH: 7.2
Ammo: 0
Nitrite: 1
Nitrate: 40

Plants have taken a massive step forward in the last week and the basil and chillis are really cranking. Lettuce isn't so flash, but my nitrate was at 5 on Thursday when i decided to dose the system up.

Good thing the whole lot seems to have cycled - i bought 11 fantail goldies home from Perth this arvo so the water had to be right :twisted:. Also popped some duckweed into the second water tank (the red one).

Bloody stoked now - look out AP!!

Lettuces need a bit more nitrogen!

Chillis are growing well although i think they're chasing the light a bit. They're quite tall and are really reaching for the sky!

Just a very simple strawberry tower planted with Mint and Carnations. I suspect the Mint will come back to haunt me one day when the roots fill the tower up and water can't flow. It won't be in there that long :twisted: .

The carnations were all i could find at the nursery that i thought might be reasonably likely to handle an AP environment. There is no doubt that they love it!

Not sure of the exact length of time that the system has been operational but it has now really started to come online. 11 goldies (~ 30 mm long) aren't contributing a great deal of nutrient so i have dosed lightly with Seasol as well.
