In art news, the highest price ever paid for a work of art an auction is $119 million +. The work of art? BW's avatar. The Scream.

But here's an update just to prove I still run a system :)

Amazingly superior flavoured thin skinned capsicum that makes our supermarket fare taste like the capsicum equivalent of artificial strawberry flavouring as compared to the real thing.

My new cold water algae eating suckfish and some of their cleanup in the sump (sorry about the picture quality, my crappy little camera just couldn't be coaxed into focusing on anything but the water)

Experimental sweet potato with roots finally making it to the water (just visible diagonal backwards to the waterline on the IBC. I'm also trying a carrot in the same manner so that if it works, I might slowly raise the carrots to keep only the taproot in the water, and thus prevent crazy shaped carrots suitable only for sale on ebay as Elvis look-alikes.

Won't the carrot turn green 'cause it's exposed to the light ?

The fish tank has a lid on it and is covered with tarps, but yeah probably. I just want to see if it splits or anything before trying some in floating foam or something. If it works, I might be able to make a device that I can lift as the carrots grow, and still keep it dark. At the moment the carrot is place through some twine that I untwisted a bit so I could poke the root through, and then let the twine twist back up again to gently hold it. Then I hang the root just into the water, and poked the leaves out throw a gap in the lid.

I tend to do pre-pre-experiments that haven't really been thought through, before attempting the pre-experiments that will at least have a sense of direction :)

No worries, interested to see how it goes.

I guess if you had a system where the carrot and roots were under a tarp, above the water, but the shrubbery on top was poking out through a hole to allow photosynthesis, it could work quite well !

I think eventually it would be a floating foam box inverted so you could raise it and keep the roots dark, but they might not even grow in water.

I'm more interested in the sweet potato. If that works, I should get a stack of surface area and cover for the fish as well. It will also mean being able to harvest individual potatoes without disturbing the rest of the plant, and I'll be able to see it all to make sure none of it is trying to grow into my plumbing, and prune it back if it tries.

I've already tested the silvers to see if they will attack the roots, and other than a few tries on the first few hours, they seem to leave them alone, so it could be a go. I tested them on an old sweet potato I had that had roots all over it. I suspect they thought they were worms at first.
