Here's a rough outline of my post that seems to have disappeared....

If you pump water up, it's at a cost, but I think generating power is a fun thing to do.

So if you are going to have a water fall anyway because you are making some kind of attractive garden feature, a water wheel might be a fun thing to have.

I don't think it would be a practical way to generate backup power because of the reasons everyone else has mentioned, but it might be worth doing anyway.

I was almost as proud of my first electricity I generated (.000001 watts from a generator turned by a 400watt power drill) as I am of my last loaf of bread.

Did I mention that by the way :)

That I can make bread :)

:D

So if its for a garden feature, I'd do it for sure. it's a cool thing to do, but I'd use the power to run some LED garden and pond lighting or something. Something you can see, and impress people with by stopping the water wheel with your hand. Especially if you have some kids in your life.

I think understanding where electricity comes from is almost as important as understanding where milk comes from. "The shop", and "the power point" are all too common answers.

I made bread!

How did that all work out for you :)

For some reason it reminds me of a girl I went to a "Disguise" costume party with. It was short notice, so she created what looked like a partly untucked red cape sticking out the back of her top, and went as a superhero, but in her normal mild mannered guise. Basically it saved getting changed :)

It's lucky I was warned that this packet of almonds may contain traces of nuts.

There's a stack of stuff on what I did posted to my blog.

But I'd wait for the next two posts because I've made a few extra breakthroughs.

That last loaf was still a little heavy but I've learnt a lot since then.

I've been reading about dread for around 6 hours a day for the last week and a half :)

I'll PM a bullet list of things i've found important.

[dread should of course read bread]

Had to nix the idea since the nursery where my son wanted to spend all of his time was really strict about not giving your kid away to the wrong person. Show ID, give them the password, scan the electronic wristband the kid is wearing...it was rather thorough, so false identities seemed to be a bad idea. And, being that most other interaction was with people that knew who I was (family, crew) I didn't get a good opportunity.

But I did get a massage from a masseuse that looked like the actress Christina Applegate and had a British accent. :thumbleft:

Historians believe that the fish that was most common in the bible was the tilapia, not silver perch. But since they are not allowed in Australia, you will have to make do with what you've got.

Probably depends on which bible.

I'm guessing King George would have had trout on his mind when he commissioned the re-write. I dont think talipia were big in Brittānia at the time.

Actually he probably had buxom maidens or handsome men on his mind. (I cant remember which way he swung) But I'm guessing his 16 course dinners were a little dull after the 12 course and the third visit to the gagatorium, so the particular variety of fish he was vomiting was probably low on his give-a-shi(p)-o-metre :)

----------
I just looked them up, and I dont think they did a lot of eating disorder stuff. From their portraits, they all look pretty healthy.

---- I dont really do history except as after posting hindsight---------------

From http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/tilapia/history.php
Quote:
The tilapia is a part of Christian mythology since the fish caught by the apostle Peter in Matthew 17:27 is believed to have been a tilapia. In English, tilapia species with a certain spotted pattern are commonly referred to as "St. Peter's fish". According to legend, the dark spots on the fish were caused by the fingerprints of the apostle. The name St. Peter's fish is also used for John Dory fish, Zeus faber, but this is a marine species and the story in the bible revolves around the Sea of Galilee, which is a freshwater lake in Israel. The Sea of Galilee is home to the tilapia Sarotherodon galilaeus galilaeus. Sarotherodon galilaeus galilaeus has been fished by local fishermen in the Sea of Galilee for thousands of years.

When they came to Capernaum, the collectors of the temple tax came up to Peter and said, "Your teacher pays the temple tax, doesn't he?" He answered, "Yes." When Peter went home, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings on the earth collect tolls or tributes? From their own subjects, or from foreigners?" When he said, "From foreigners," Jesus said to him, "In that case, the subjects are exempt. However, so that we don't offend them, go to the sea and throw in a hook. Take the first fish that comes up, open its mouth, and you will find a coin. Take it and give it to them for me and you."

I have an entirely new sail boat design.

It's a secret.
