Thought I would ask over here instead of the catfish thread...

In reading through I didn't see anything about symptoms apart from them dying open-mouthed, yet later you mention white spot. Is that a guess or did you see symptoms? Would white spot have survived the water changes?

From my recent visit for catfish, Rick seems to have cleaned things up from when you were there - everything looked clean, the waters in both RAS and AP systems were clear and not at all smelly and all the fish were live and active.

Maybe his supplier 'got' him at that point as well? If he was having the issues you mention, perhaps he could tell us what went wrong so we can learn from your unfortunate experiences?

Well there was nothing wrong with this system as I had just harvested a crop of Jade perch out of it.

I am happy to hear that he has cleaned up his tanks

Me too... *grins* I'd be a bit pissed if I lost my catfish!

The SP's from Glenwaters are all in excellent health so that's another supplier who seems to know his stuff. They came through a trip from Glenburn to Melb where they sat in a plastic bag for a few hours, after having 10 or so of their mates removed, waiting for me to get there, then a trip out to Bendigo and they were eating the first time I fed them.

Now fat and sassy.

I'm just having a read of your IBC system - I'm finishing up plans for one in a 10 sq m GH so looking for every hint I can find - BEFORE I put everything in place. My backyard looks like an IBC graveyard. :D

Just remember to use 90mm for your outlets/slo to the growbeds (you can step down to smaller outlets at the beds) and get a decent pump that is oversized to allow for expansion

Yep... got plans for that. I'm planning 90mm for the SLO but was going to drop it back to go into a solids swirl filter - thought I might get good flow in the filter that way. Then across into a bio-filter (Moving bed) and 90mm from their to the GB's.

Cod are eating steadily in this system and plants are growing well. This is a volunteer tommy that came up after last season so I kept it going. Has set its first truss of fruit

Yeah Charlie I am very happy with them. First time I have ever had to tie a capsicum plant up to support it :)

Fixed up one mistake in this system this morning. I put tuscan rock in this bed a couple of years ago and have regreted it from day one. So having come accross hydroton for $20 bag from a lady whose system never got off the ground, decided it must go.

Went away for a couple of days and the bigger cod must have gotten hungry. This is the smallest one I found floating when we got home with a few inches missing
4 Cod left and looking like it may end up as one LOL
