Watching the snow coming down today. The minnow tub (outside in the ground) has gotten super clear I guess because it has been overcast for several days now. You can see all the way to the bottom. In that tub there seems to be three large minnows left, and a bunch of string algae for them to eat. I have an air lift and a plain air stone in there, and the water doesn't circulate otherwise.

A lot of the seeds have come up, and I think with the temps getting into the 30s that I should throw a heater out in the water, but everything is on one circuit so that might not be doable.

Got the 12v relay I ordered from Amazon, since the UPS didn't work. Going to call the trout guy today, first priority these two weeks though is to get projects around the house finished so we can list our house in February. Got almost all the moldings on the first floor done, also going to work on trim in the basement over the next week.

What's the relay for?

Good luck with sorting the house and of course selling it.

Finally some of you can stop calling me a poseur!

:fish:

Got a bag of trout food, then picked up 35 trout, 30 rainbows and 5 golden rainbows! They are about 6" long. Rowdy kids in the back seat splashing around on the way home. One was chillaxing a bit too much on the bottom but I think he perked up when moved. Water is somewhere in the mid to high 40sF/8C today, it was over 60F/15C degrees outside today which is helping things warm up a bit.

The trout hatchery is located at the head of a natural spring, it was built in the 1940s.

These are all golden rainbow trout, the hatchery manager told me they breed true, if you breed two together they make more golden ones.

Hellow, and Thanks for visiting my member site.
I knew about your icon, but did not have a chance to look at your older system sites until now.
You are a real dreamer, I found.
I like dreamers.
I must take a deeper look at your dreams, past and present, when I have time.

Thanks Sejin, it's a marathon not a sprint, the Winter effects have allowed me to reset every year. But now that I think I know how to put a system together I can devote time to just growing things, which is the whole point.

This is my thread for 2012 and later:

Hey Dave. Looking back at your wood rails w/ liner, plywood and netpots... Did you use any special kind of plywood? I've heard even untreated plywood contains chemicals these days. How far does your water level come up (I assume it's not touching the plywood)? Lastly... have you noticed any rot on your plywood yet? Love your systems, I'm a big fan.

Hey thanks, I am not using the plywood anymore, the bottom rail that was using the plywood is now just an open center section with 10" square net pots in it. The plain pine board for the upper rail is still working fine, it bowed downward a bit but not a problem. The plywood started delaminating because it was out in the weather and it likely would have not lasted much longer. The untreated pine board I'm using on the top is OK but that is under cover. The bottom of it sees moisture of course and it seems to be OK. I plan to continue using rails like this for the future, they are easy to make, flexible, good use of space, and pretty cheap. I'm guessing two rails together with liner and pots would be like $100 or so.
