Hi guys,

Has anyone had much experience with Tandus or Eel tailed Catfish in their systems?

Any do's and dont's?

Any dangers? I am guessing not real good yabby companions at the least?

What about dangers to other mid-water fish?

Thanks guys,

I'll be getting some soon, but I can't give pointers about them yet.
[quote="Ausyfish"]Catfish (Tandanus tandanus) are scavengers, generally bottom feeders, but will eat small fish that will fit in their mouth. Temperature tolerance is wide. Anything your other fish can handle, they will be happy with. The big bonus is, they are top eating. Their flesh is white and delicate. When you are ready to eat them just humanely dispatch them. Before gutting and heading them, pour hot water over the skin. Then the skin can easily be peeled off. The protective coating of mucus will not be slippery once the hot water has been applied. Cook them a bit longer than perch to produce the best texture. Undercooked, they can be a bit too moist.

Another big bonus... they will breed in dams.[quote]
There's a site and forum dedicated to them... :D http://tandanuscatfish.webs.com/tandanusfood.htm

I have some in the same tank as silver perch, and they seemed to get along ok for the last 6 months or so.. I've been feeding that tank with a mix of floating and sinking pellets, but recently with the way the cats have been going at the food as soon as it hits the water, they'd probably be fine on just floating food now..

We have two catfish, Tandanus tandanus, in a balcony system, they have lived there for some years now. These guys get the same floating pellets and come to the surface with their little mouths wide open.
