My first system just had about 30 goldfish in a 55gal drum.
Those things are a carp relative and will survive from freezing up to 95deg water. They get up to 14" long.
I know they will survive those temps because that is what they saw in the little system stuck in a tiny greenhouse back in Virginia. The temps would swing wildly every day during all parts of the year. Only deaths were suicides(jumpers). They are taking over some ponds in Colorado. Look it up on YouTube.
My new system will again get 4 larger goldfish for permanent residency/show/kids pets... and 35 to 45 hybrid bluegills later on. I will add a fingerling tank tied into the system to get the next batch started early since they take more time than trout, catfish, or tilapia to grow out.
I want bullhead or channel catfish in my third system in another 5years or so. The recommended tank sizes are minimum 300gal and preferably 400 gallon or more for channels. I can't find bullhead fingerlings anywhere.
Old thread successfully resurrected!
