Looks like we are all counting of Dagz's adventure to catch something. Might be a good idea for me to stick to yabbies for the time being. Haven't got them yet, but found some feeder yabbies (about 3-4cm) going for $2 each. This is an a pet shop. Tried calling the fish bait shops around my area and none of them have heard of yabbies being used as bait.

ur in Perth, why not Marron?

They're heaps cheaper if you can find a yabbie farm. som $0.20 - $0.50 ea (as feeders)

Free down here  Dam Maggots  but tasty
Marron are not the easiest to grow Kuda, they hate tanks so hard to keep them in, any slight changes in water conditions ie Am Ni etc they cark it, pH required is 7.8 - 8.2, they eat 1 marron pellet a fortnight and take 3 years to grow to size, a tank of 3 mt diameter would allow around 10 marron Max, they don't fight like Yabbies but try to escape and die trying.
Brilliant for dams and tasty, but even in dams if the water changes, there off, have seen many walking around paddocks at night, makes them easier to catch  but you can't get them to go back to dam they escaped from, they leave in the hundreds, bit like the crabs on xmas island, doesn't happen often but it does happen, other than all of the above they are a good choice

i am tryaling marron in little cages but i think the draw back will be the time it takes to grow out to a reasonable size.

am going to try macking low profile cages and layer the botom of the fish tank with them and have 1 yabby in each

grunta, care to share what the low profile cages you are talking about look like and possibly where to get them? I am also considering putting the yabbies at the bottom of the FT to clear the scraps.

Have been negotiating prices for MA at Live Fish they finally have said $4.50ea for 100 or $6 for 50  have now given the aqua blue's price to see if they will come down more, at them prices I would be better off flying over and having a weekend with Dagz
Might happen yet

Hi Grunta,
Thanks for your pics. I can't believe that it is that simple. I was possibly overthinking things, but it looks like it is essentially one of those storage boxes with holes drilled into them. A bit of weight from the gravel to hold it down and also for them yabbies to flick around.

I actually went looking around Bunnings for ideas of what I could use, but all I need to do was to "steal" the missus storage boxes.

Thanks heaps.

Nice Grunta, you can also make square cages any size you like out of 12 or 19mm square aviary wire it's about $5 per metre for 2.4mt wide so for $10 you can make a few.
On the MA shrimp from Live fish $4-50 is the best price, even for a thousand, so need Dagz who seems to have disappeared
