I'm sure my catfish are stoned, the trout are meth heads, possibly only the silver perch are drug free.

I'm glad people are entertained by this thread... I seriously might try this though. what if we find out that drugging our fish makes them want to eat more, or something? That would be an aquaculture breakthrough.

Maybe. Although based on this it might just be a bad trip:

I'm just picturing the news reports.

"Drug Squad raid and arrest Aquaponic growers who are creating a drug laced fish produce, which they thought would go under the radar. The growers have been jailed for 25 years for their attempt."

Many consider pumping crap into monkeys as science, and many think it is species abuse - and it is !!

The reason they use primates for research is they are the closest to humans. I don't agree with using animals for cosmetics and non health related research either. But if you can save one child's life by doing research using monkeys, I'm 100% on board.

Id like to see them use children to save monkeys.... there are less monkeys than children.

Yep... We are a too frivolous with other animals lives...

You are literally advocating this:

Its a simple notion Chris, if it isnt good enough for your child.... what gives you the right to think its good enough for animals?

Disclaimer: This is only a half-serious question.

My AP system is quickly turning into more of a science/engineering project than a "grow your own food" project...

I searched around on google and could not even find any scientific research results about the effects of psilocybin on fish. I've checked up on local laws and it's legal for me to buy spores for the mushrooms that produce psilocybin compounds, as long as I don't grow them with the intent to distribute or consume them.

(For those not familiar, psilocybin is the psychoactive compound found in over 200 species of mushrooms that causes hallucinations)

Here's some thoughts on what might happen to the fish when they consume psilocybin:

1. They die. This would be bad.
2. No effect.
3. Significant behavior change, for example lack of fear of predation.
4. Panic or other self-destructive behavior like ramming the walls of the tank or jumping out of the water.

It might be worth investigating...

On reading this I think you may eating one too many and are wondering what to do with the remainder :dontknow: :laughing3: :laughing3: :laughing3:

Yavi- In order to properly test a new medicine, one would logically assume that you would start with lower form animals, rats, rabbits, and then progress to animals closer to humans. Personally, if the animals aren't endangered, and they're being used for MEDICAL advances, I don't give a damn of they kill 10,000 monkeys to develop a cure for a cancer that kills children/people. Take a visit to a children's cancer ward, and see if you don't agree. But, I do remember a post where you stated something about killing off half the world's population to control the food issue? For every You Tube PETA video you post, I could post 5 on the benefits of animal testing for vaccines and medical advances.

Rats have feeling to...maybe we shouldn't use them for testing LDD's on chemicals either. Hell, we shouldn't hunt, fish, or swat a mosquito while we're at it. There's environmentalists, and then there are the fricking wacko tree huggers that aren't actually smart enough to realize that there is more to it then driving an electric car and belonging to the Audubon Society.

lol Chris, i would normally mention something about how you sound like a religious nut with that lower life form comment, but i wont.....

im not against medical testing, but medicines for humans should be tested on humans, its been done before.
there is no ethics in animal testing and very few people who advocate it have trust worthy ethics in regards to animals or the environment i have found.

So as not to hijack Cathode's thread, this will be my last comment.

If by "religious nut" you mean I believe in the Bible, then yes, I'm a proud "religious nut"

In this country at least, it's against the law to use people for early stage testing. Perhaps you could volunteer.

why would i volunteer when there are plenty of religious nuts who believe they have the right to volunteer the lives of innocent animals???

by religious nut, i mean someone so brainwashed by church bullshit about "god put us here" and "we are here to rule over the animals", etc. that they actually believe they are not simply animals themselves...... LOL.
