OK Folks - if you know of publications, that normal mortals can read and will help us understand our fish - Keep them coming.. and EB can delete this post when appropriate..

Clearly, that SILVER PERCH document is one of the best for mortals to understand, and it contains ALL the basics for many fish diseases and treatments..

I'm interested because I just slaughtered ALL my fish and I wanted to know why.. :-( .. when I KNEW the water vitals were great..

( But no discussions HERE )

http://www.microponics.net.au/microponics/aquaponics_aquaculture/mythconception-4-removal-of-solid-wastes/

Now this is an interesting find, and one that completely flies in the face of many experienced APers..

Quote:
There’s a prevailing belief among some aquaponicists that an additional function of grow beds is to trap and process solid wastes. These solid wastes consist of fish faeces and uneaten food.

This belief ignores the fact that a bio-filter functions most effectively when sedimentary solids are removed…….something that every trainee wastewater treatment operator knows. It also flies in the face of advice from leading aquaponics researchers like Dr Wilson Lennard, Dr James Rakocy and Dr Nick Savidov.

Presented without opinion.
