Just thought I'd share how I have raised my trout.
First off I bought trout food in pellet size. Then I didn't bother feeding them at all for days at a time as I wasn't in a hurry to get them up to eating size. They got fed about once a week for several months. Now I take my chook eggs (hen eggs) and fry them up and then slice them up and throw them to the trout every second day and the trout are going crazy and growing really fast. I also slice the fat of cheap cuts of meat and slice the fat up and throw that to the trout. They love it.

The result is I don't need to go half way around Australia to get specialist trout food. I buy wheat for the chooks and then give the excess eggs to the trout. Basically for animals and fish to grow they just want protein.

Do you have a growbed with vegetables filtering the fish tank Trevi?
If so how do they look with that small amount of nutrient going in to the system?

The grow beds are in really good condition. Lovely and clean. With the eggs I cook a few extra when ever I have breakfast. Sometimes I fry,, sometimes I steam, sometimes I poach and sometimes I boil the eggs. It's best to makesure the yolk is cooked so it's not runny. Then I just slice them up or break them up with my finger nails. With the fat from the meat I cut the fat off before I cook the meat. So the fat is not cooked and it usually floats for a little while which the trout like. As I understand it the trout food which we can get from Kenderton near Albany and which comes all the way from Tasmania is a mix of fat, fish, bone and meat off cuts all blended up and the fat helps the pellets to float. I have also used chook pellets but they sink and the trout don't easily get all of the pellets. Any way I just feed the tout eggs and uncooked offcuts of meat and fat and of course any fish we catch. With the fish its really imprtant to make sure any bones are chopped up real fine. I usually throw a bit of salt on the food as well.

The good thing about science is that you don't have to believe in it for it to be right.
