Post subject:  Brown Trout - anyone farming these?

Hi everyone,

Brand new to the site, to fish, to aquaponics - you name it and I'm a rookie!

So I have read a bit over the last few days and have decided to try and do an IBC tank system (as I have a couple kicking about) in the next few months, and trial how well it works here (Northern Scottish Highlands) and see what I can get from it. If it works it might be the answer to what I do with my croft and my disability. My croft is a bog, and I can't grown much on it, but also I am not really fit to. I have a lot of hopes pinned on fish right now.

I see a lot of talk of Rainbow trout, but I was wondering why no one farms Brown? It appears in my part of the world there's a big market for them just to restock ponds and lochs for a £2million angling industry.

Also looking for snails happy to live at 15C, eat algae and reproduce abundantly. Also a recommendation for a book that explains systems well (particularly IBC tanks all linked together with the grow beds above them).

Can't wait to get my learn curve on and appreciate all and any feedback I can get from you AP Guru's!

Hi sinkorswim,

Welcome to the forum, are you going for a covered system via a poly tunnel?

Cheers

Jock

Hi sinkorswim, if you look at the top right of the forum page you'll see a link in the narrow black bar to the IBC of Aquaponics... that'll give you a good start on your reading and a lot of example systems to look at! ;D
