Hi Everyone,

My company is finally shipping expanded shale here in the US. We're doing a promotion to give a bunch of it away. Details are in this video:

I wanted to thank Joel for allowing me to bend the rules a bit by allowing me to post this. :notworthy: I promise this will be the only post about this...unless someone initiates a question asking about it.

He expanded shale I have seen down here has lots of smalls and fines in it...and is really dirty. Is this stuff any better?

Most of the fines are removed with this stone. It's not 100% clean, but it's pretty good. It goes through a second screening process to get rid of it at the quarry. Most of the stones are between 1/2" to 3/4" in size. I didn't clean it when I put it in my system and it did wash some of the residual powder that's stuck to the stone into the system. It discolored the water a bit but most of it settled into the sump tank and I just sucked it out. Just like any any stone or hydroton, if you want the water to be perfectly clean, you'll have to wash it first.

To make a long story short. There are very few fines except some of the dust that was stuck to it.

Just a friendly reminder that my little promotion on the free expanded shale giveaway is ending this week. You just need to have an account on YouTube, subscribe to my channel, and enter a comment in the video about what you like to grow in your AP system.

The grand prize is a 40 liter box shipped free to anywhere in the US. There are 10 runners up that will get a 4 cup (a bit less than a liter) sample pack, again to anywhere in the US. You can also order it from http://www.TheAquaponicSource.com if you can't wait to see if you win! :shifty:

Actually - I would like a quote for an entire truck load. A cheap quote...;) Maybe a few of us could go in together.

An entire truck is roughly 30 yards. You also need a LOT of space to store it.
