I have just received my final approval for translocation of fish. This is not for one species like the first approval I received, but a blanket approval for all the commonly asked for species.
Makes sence really for home aquaponics seeking approval, as the approval is granted as long as the total number of fish is 250 or less.

That would perhaps be a good way for them to do things, pick the commonly used AP fish species, pick a number like 250, and then just get people to do a once off application.. A little like the current silver perch permit.

Quick look on fisheries still the same old form , permission required for each species , valid for 12 months...
Registered Fishkeepers may be an option ?

Fill out the application detailing the address and conditions where they will be kept, send it off, receive permit to keep silvers at that property, gees, is it only 12 months? Might have to dig ours out and check.

to translocate the fish ( the act of shifting fish ) is valid for 12 months , how long you keep 'em is up to you... I thought.
Don't tell me I need a permit to KEEP them as well :geek:

Not if your system is less than 10,000L in total.... and/or you don't attempt to sell them...

Aquaponics falls under the rules that apply to the aquaria trade... if you were to attempt to sell any of your fish/plants... you could be required to be licenced...

I made out three sets of paperwork initially.
One each for silver perch, barra and rainbow trout. I received an approval for rainbow trout some months ago but last week I received an approval which states,
common translocation approval for
Black bream, silver perch, marron, koonac, gilgie, barramundi, cherabin, rainbow trout and brown trout.
They just wrote my name on the approval and sent it to me plus guide lines for keeping the fish, transportation, that they fish etc are for non display aquaponics and cannot be sold etc.
I imagine that seeing at the moment this approval is free the separate sets of forms all add up so individual approvals multiply their costs, this way one set fits most common species.

Thats sounding a whole lot more practical , I take it they still want 24 hr notice before transport??

As far as I'm aware silvers still fall under the Silver perch management plan which requires people to apply for a permit to keep silver perch. And yes this is separate to translocation approvals. This is only for silver though, they made the plan up when they realized a few years back just how many people in WA had silvers and they wanted to get a little control over what was happening.
