I recorded it on my home theatre pc running windows MCE, copied it across to my main puter only to find that it won't open the file in media player, and wont open in movie maker either...... :P Might take a bit of mucking around, I didn't want to install lots of shareware stuff on this puter as I was trying to keep it clean..

Can you not encode on the windows media centre PC? I think I remember reading that people have a bit of trouble getting the recorded stuff of of there.

Have a look for some media converters and run them on the MCE computer. A program called Gspot (yes I know) is a good program for identifying the format/codec used in the recording. Then find a suitable converter.

Hi Joel and Faye ...

Nice segment...

I hope that you can get a tee shirt big enough to fit my beer belly on helping out day .. hee hee...

I would love to help out Saturday.

( I don't need a hat .. but I would like to try one...!)

I hope to do my bit at the open day..

Feeding time was excellent ... those fish were acrobatic!

( I guess they learned that from Faye standing on the growbeds......!)

Kudos to you both, you are educating people!

I need a BIG black long thin rectangular pond!

Yeah, EB... let us know if you need some help on the open day(s). I am more than happy to lend a hand.

Have you had any jump out yet Faye?

Yep, could have a problem there Joel.... MCE often wont allow you to play recorded TV on anything other than the PC you recorded it on....

There was supposed to be a patch developed to the DRM application, but I think it got lost with Vista Media Centre .... MCE 2005 is no longer being developed....

I'll research what options you may have..... one that comes to mind is to use a modded Xbox with the Xbox Media Centre dashboard.....

For that matter.... it might only need to be transferred to the Xbox via FTP....

DRM and the Media Centre was/is a real bugger..... even most of the sanctioned Media Centre Extenders can't play files recorded/stored on the main Media Centre PC.....

I run two modded Xboxes with the Xbox Media Centre dashboard, one in the lounge room for the big TV, one in the games room and a 2.4 wireless transmitter/receiver unit that can be plugged into any TV/room...

So we cheat and just stream everything off the MCE PC in the office....

See what I can come up with..... ain't gunna be easy

Would DVDShrink be useful? It reads a DVD onto disk and then you can remove copy protection and shrink it to fit the size you want. Can't find my copy atm but will let you know.

Thats a point funku... EB can you burn it to DVD? I know its an extra step but you will be able to then use AutoGK to rip it to DivX or Xvid.

If you don't have it sussed by the time I visit this week, I have DVDShrink on my laptop if that helps. I also have my USB TV thingo so we may be a able to play on your home theatre thingo and record on my laptop if it has a coax out. I also have video conversion utils a plenty, but I don't know about MCE DRM. Shareware Smareware, go for the 210 disk :)

I missed it as I thought it was on at 5pm and didn't check the guide until about two hours after it was on :(
