Hi all,
Alan here, only recently into the urban farming thing, converted my old vege patch into wicking beds and now looking to get an aquaponics set-up running as well. Planning on a small IBC set up, so will throw a thread up when i get my bum into gear and the kidlings give me enough time to get started lol...

lots of great info here, looking forward to learning and contributing as my journey into aquaponics progresses.

Cheers
Alan

Welcome mate, where abouts are you in Darwin? Will be back up there in late June for a week. Send Upnorth a PM and have a chat with him. He is out at Howard Springs but has not been on site for months. Worth a try. Cheers

Hi ccBear, I'm out near Humpty Doo in the Palmerston area... close to the city, but not too close lol... have a few mates that are slowly getting into AP systems so there are a few of us here. Given the price of fruit and vegetables in Darwin (and the availability of fresh stuff - most comes via road freight so in the wet season if we get cut off its months old by the time it gets here), last lettuce bought was the size of a softball and was $7, so seems a smart investment to grow our own.

There is another member in the northern suburbs as well but he has not posted for a while. Lived 25 years up there and had a place out at Girraween estate. You will have to set up a good shade area that covers your growbeds otherwise you will lose the battle.

At lest you can have barra all year round, you are also allowed to bring in Jade Perch with a permit.

Will be staying with family and friends in Adelaide River, Humpty Doo and Karama while we are there. Cheers

yeah its a great lifestyle up here, we love it... our boys go into hibernation whenever the temperature drops below 25 degrees!

Am looking forward to getting the AP set up and running, hoping to get one tank with barra running and a smaller tank with cherabin or redclaw, still trying to get my head around how to set it all up with the available space!

And i know what you mean about shade, things burn in a heartbeat here...

Map out your area and then work from there, try different lay outs and see what you get.
