I'd prefer a diff or hub to an engine :D

Mind you, the V8's are crap. Whoever decided at Toyota that using that engine in a predominately minesite/ agricultural vehicle was crazy. Sure, have the V8 as an option, but use a simple, low electronic 6 cylinder engine for the base model.

OH YEA BABY IVE HIT THE JACK POT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally, finally, finally Ive done it....the proposed impossible!

I HAVE FOUND MARRON! :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Although this has cost me countless days, hours, weeks, months and years and god knows how much in fuel.....my moment has finally come.

This my friends.....has been the single best day of my life. (other than kids and meeting my beautiful partner etc etc blah blah)

This thread does not give justice to the time I have put into bush tracking the outback of the Goldfields in search for the misterious Cherax tenuimanus.

I called bullsh*t a long time ago and I stand here now eating my shorts.

Thankyou persistance and patience!....
Thanyou family!......
Thankyou Goodrich all-terrains!....
Thankyou Carlton Cold!....
Thankyou to Garmins navagational excellance!
Thankyou Nissan and your unbeatable drivetrain and chasis that Toyota just couldnt compete with in all there wildest dreams!
Thankyou to the legend who had the foresight to slip a few Marron in that secret, sectret Dam so many years ago that inevitably... I was too awesome to find.

Today is my day.....I shall name it.....Charlie's day the 1st of May.

In aid of this thread I will continue my adventures when summer returns in search for the BIGGEST yabbie....ever found.

I will succeed.

I didnt keep anything under the 80mm carapace length..... or breeders.

Im not in marron waters anyway, the fisheries policies were not introduced for outback golfields they were for the south. In 2003 and 2007 interim management controls were introduced to protect the vulnerable breeding populations and ensure the quality of the fishery is maintained or improved, nothing to do with what I am doing.

And yes, I do own a marron fishing licence. :D

Thanks Faye :thumbright:

I think a BYAP public holiday is in order!

Do they taste any different? I am quite ignorant in the ways of freshwater critters.

Also what do you think the water temp was in the dam you caught them? Im wondering if they might be more tolerant to warmer water than the marron you buy from down south.

yea they do, a lot sweeter and nicer texture.

Im not sure of the temp of that dam but if I was to guess it would be around 15deg on the surface, obviously a lot cooler as it got deeper. You could be right thou that they may have adapted to a warmer water. I have a few in my FT now so see how we go.

Nice work Charlie

Would be interesting if you could breed 'em to test the temp tolerance. It will depend how long they've been there.

On the assumption that it was a man-made dam (bulldozed) it won't have been long enough for that sort of adaption to occur. If it was a natural water feature, or something created 50+ years ago (e.g. some of the old rock-walled dams around the Goldfields, e.g. Emu Rocks) then there may be a chance this adaption has occured !!
