"Legal Yabby Trap (Opera house style trap)
Although a legal yabby trap in inland waters of Australia, it has been known to drown small turtles. When using traps like these its best to use soap for bait instead of meat. It actually works better and doesn't attract turtles.
Note the relatively small metal rings at each end that the Yabby must climb through making it impossible for medium and large turtles to gain access through."

Well i found this info on the fisheries website concerning the trap in your top two pics Charlie. And it only applies to redclaw

"Fishers on Lake Kununurra and the Ord River upstream of
the diversion dam and downstream of Lake Argyle may use
commercially available ‘opera house’ style traps that have
been specially modified to target redclaw. However, the
use of fish traps in all other Western Australian waters will
remain illegal".

Maybe Chillidude could provide the link that states its ok to use traps in public waterways because i can't find it

Fish traps are not the same as yabbie nets.

The adventures continue once again.

Went out camping last night and although it was raining I quite enjoyed myself. Set nets in 3 dams and got a few, they arent very big but a feed none the less. One of the dams had a fireplace so I made the most out of that while I was there to dry myself and keep warm.

Any time Ryan :thumbleft: Got plenty of spare rooms here if you wanna stay for a weekend or something, we can go out and hit some of these dams and Ill show you what Kal has to offer. Usually take the rifles and shoot some roo's and rabbits whilst waiting to pull the traps.

Another haul today, took about 40 minutes to fill the esky so I had to come home.. :dontknow:

Same pic but with flash on and off. Sorry cam doesnt do a good night piccy.

What hardware you using for the Roos? Brings back memories of shooting Roos with a 270 out the back of Southern Cross many moons ago.

I see that when it comes to the serious work you can't beat the old Landcruiser Charlie? :blackeye:

We are using 243's Simo. Thats plenty of fire power when your dropping 5 ton of roo over 3 nights. A 270 simply just gets painful, expensive and not really required. It comes down to cost per round, we reload our own but its still not real cheap. One head shot, one roo. The roo's are sold to the local pet meat slaughter house and the black fella's buy the tails for a dollar each.

And yes, when it comes to buisness.. nothing stops the ol' Tojo. Mind you, its specially built for this kind of punishment. :thumbleft:

Charlie, quick question for you, do all yabbies have the blue/red around their claws etc? I havent seen yabbies in WA with so mcuh blue as I have seen on the last trip to Kal, before that im sure they were more brown. Is there a reason for it? the Bro in law seemed to think it was to do with the water
