You will find that most of those kids that came from wealthy families also had parents who were very professional and had good brains and therefore passed them onto family. My father was a Captain and my mother was a Registered Nurse so no Brain surgeon or the likes here. My brother was sent to private school and is a cop. Daughters who had fathers that were dentists became dentists and daughters who had fathers or mothers that were doctors ended up being doctors or surgeons. Farmers daughters that were sent to boarding school mostly ended up as Nurses or other health carers but nothing too brainy. I really think the brains are dished out at birth and the only difference private school does is reduce the distractions and discipline is more controlled and most kids already have good standards from their families so not much riff raff :D Is it worth it?? I would have to ask my dad :wave1:

Sometimes those kids are only more popular because people want something from their parents. This reminds me of when I was in first grade. I was never happy with just a satisfactory mark on my school work, therefore I would spend too much time on it, and it would be late. The teacher, seeing the problem, changed the incentive. Every time I completed my work before lunch, the whole class would get an extra minute of recess. Every day I finished on time without fail. I became very popular. Then we moved. The new teacher thought I was a great student, and felt no need for such incentives. My popularity was nonexistent. In fact I got into a lot of fights there. Moved again that year. Even less popular at that school. Of course now that I look back, the problem at the third school was that I was not related to everyone else...

I think it depends on what's available where you live, the neighborhood, etc. The education at the public school system I went to in the 'burbs was pretty darned good. I was way ahead when I transferred to the city school system during my elementary years. However, a friend of mine that I met in HS (the high school was much better than the rest of the system, in this city we applied for entrance into high schools of our choice, and they have majors and varying quality), she had gone to a private school but her education was very poor there. Because she was sent there for religious reasons, not for quality of education reasons. But she was also in a different neighborhood so I cannot be certain the public school local to her in the city was better or worse. It was certainly worse than the public school I went to in the suburbs.

Claire is going to private boarding school from year 7 onwards, it's $9k per term lol. I think I'll be staying in the pilbara so I can afford it.

How are kids going to learn how to deal with the full spectrum of society if they are packaged off to exclusive schools? I completely understand if you live in a remote area where it is necessary to send kids away to boarding school for a decent education. However it astounds me that there are so many parents who scrim and save to send their kid off to private school instead of perfectly good public schools that have equivalent educational rankings, thinking that it will buy them a ticket into 'brighter future prospects' and social circles that they are not a part of. Maybe I am a bit of a reverse snob :dontknow:
