I've been away from home, dog/house sitting, naturally I turned off all the power outlets as a safety measure.
Stupidly the pond pump was included in this...
Luckily I still only have a few small gudgeons and similar natives to eat mosquito larvae, so there wasn't a fish kill.
So glad I didn't have a school of perch in there!
And the spring plague of caterpillars has arrived so that's my cue to rip out all of the plants and top up the beds with a bag or two of media. Been waiting for the arrival of pests before I bothered with that. They're a month or two later than I expected them to be at least.
edit- I'm working 6 days a week right now and so does my local supplier of clay balls, bummer...
Finished early today and would have grabbed them on the way home had I realised the pests had arrived. Oh well, some day it'll happen, pests can feed for the time being I suppose...

Fruit fly aaaarrrrggghhhh.....

have been going strong with 10-20 good tomatoes per week and now just been hit by fruit fly.

have been baiting as have citrus starting to develop but I sometimes wonder whether the baits do a better job of attracting them rather than controlling them. Just finished stripping ALL the tomatoes off the bushes and ripping some of the excess bushes out.

what a PITA......

mandarins always take a hammering in March-April or so but never been hit on the tomatoes before.

oh to go back to the recent past when you could at least hammer the little blighters with something that works (and is now banned).

I remember a turf class where the prof. suggested it is prudent to place Japanese beetle traps in your neighbor's yard rather than your own.

Loquats fruit between citrus and stone fruit and is a transition plant for fruit fly. It's my sons fave fruit but the one here getting the chop once summer mellows due to the flies.
Haven't had fly in our tomato's yet, our loquats and apricots were riddled. Luckily we don't have QLD fruit fly... :?
Vent.
This heat is starting to really suck...

I may have ranted about this before, but I'm doing it again because living in caravan parks a fair bit you tend to find some pretty gross habits people have.

Guys that pee in a toilet without lifting the seat first and they dribble all over the front of the seat.... !!??? Whats your story?? It's gross....

If you don't want to use the urinal and must use the toilets, lift the bloody seat up...

Cheaky bugger... Actually I haven't had a rant on here for a while, must be the lower stress levels.... :)

Just spent a week in Ledge Point at a friends property just north of Perth. Damn I'm sick of eating crayfish, dhufish and snapper for every meal.. Bloody hard work getting through them when you're catching about a dozen crays a day...

This was the fish fridge the day I left, still filled with buckets of whole crays, fish fillets, cray tails etc... Hard life... :bootyshake:

+1

I think I'd have to catch 20 or 30 here to equal one of those :upset:. The fact that there's a dedicated fish fridge pretty much says it all
