Nope, but I did accidentally click on a link I didn't see when browsing on my phone which signed my mobile number up for something. Getting my telco to reverse ththe charge and block it.

We've had our grand daughter here for the day Sunday and she and I like to do smartphone camera stuff. I downloaded special effects for the camera. She's 8 I'm 64. I should know better, in the Play store it says "Free with ads," I thought, this time I'll be careful where I click... :laughing3: Ever notice how much 8 year-olds wiggle? I clicked a chain reaction into play, whoa whoa whoa! I wish there was a "back" button on phones, lol!

I did a factory reset on a mobile phone the other day and discovered popups every few minutes, and multiple browser tabs opening to hardcore porn, and gambling sites. I had installed just one ap. A torch. It had an option "Flash on call" which I had set to ON.

After hours of handing my phone to other people to try to solve the problem (my first non-iPhone), I eventually figured out the problem.

Why does english use the same word to mean two different things???

In this case "Flash"

Now I have to investigate what the "flash on ring", and "flash on vibrate" setting do :)

I also hate popups, and as soon as I see one that asks for my email, I'm off. One of the best things about this forum was that the content is accessible right away.

And strobing (no need to use the word "flashing") ads. Ads are fine, and important, but the strobing ones make me leave or turn on an adblocker.

Did the problem persist? lol Damn strings... Haven't seen that one before.
Some times the "back button" can then allow you to copy what you've written.. Sometimes..

Microsoft error codes.

I wonder if Microsoft knows that most people dont care if the text in their error messages database took up a few kilobytes these days. Almost everyone has stopped using floppy disks and has enough room for detailed error messages. (except the USA's Strategic Air Command - google search for 5 1/2 inch floppies nukes)

That's probably enough said, but I'll press on regardless.

If you are going to give me a stupid code instead of some meaningful information, at least give it to me in a way that allows me to copy and paste the stupid code to google it*.

According to Microsoft's error code lookup site, it simply means...

Obvious really in hindsight. :dontknow:

That site might have been another excellent place to give the information I need, but nope.

My sea monkeys still haven't arrived from 1976. (actually my real rant is that I cant see through clothes with the x-ray specks but I was trying to keep it family friendly)

Arooobah!.jpg [ 199.89 KiB | Viewed 5128 times ]

Actually, actually, I just bought some sea monkeys and they are real!

They totally hatch, and make life out of dry stuff sent through the mail, although they are yet to wear crowns, and engage in domestic human activities.

As [mostly always], I maintain a hopeful disposition and look forward.

Bullwinkle you're showing you age with this one :laughing3:

They also got me with the Sea Monkeys, and they did all hatched OK, what they didn't tell you was that you needed a magnifying glass and a lot of luck to see the little buggars. :upset:

They couldn't get me with the X-Ray Specks, I wasn't that gullible. :laughing3: but I did fall into the 2 Phantom Rings :laughing3:

The "pure gold" ring turned green in under week, it should have been bundled with the X-Ray Specks. :support:

The X-Ray specks wouldn't be able to see through the lead coating on the ring anyway :)

Actually green would probably be copper, but that would only stand in the way of the story...

And never let the truth do that.

Sue me [I edited myself] from ebay (pvt me if you are buying an old model iPhone from eBay and want to avoid/take advantage of this seller)

Don't buy from this seller.

Unless you want a free phone that doesn't work.

I'm well on the way :)

I bought an iPhone 5s 64GIG. Old, but a step up from my 7 year old iPhone that still works perfectly but cant be upgraded to the latest operating system and as such blah blah blah blah.

It was crap. (non-standard iPhone button that felt a bit like it might get stuck in the down position (no fingerprint scanner) battery got insanely hot and lasted 2 hours or so) It was advertised as "New" AND "Refurbished" . Interesting in itself. Also interesting is the fact that the listing now displays an official eBay message saying it's been removed, and that I am under no obligation to complete the transaction (a little late for that but oddly reassuring when bargaining)

He offered me $50 to not complain.

I said no.

He offered me $100.

I said no.

He offered me $150 :)

I'm starting to think the phone might be worthless even to him :)

I said no.

We shall see just how inexpensive it can get (It does seem new (I'm guessing it was returned to the factory and sold off as parts))

I've just sent a message saying I'll settle for a 100% refund, and get to keep the phone - ROFL (and anyone that knows me knows that I actually lie on the floor and roll about for a bit when I type that :) )

Repair cost is around $40 if I do it myself for all original parts, and the tools required, or $130 if I get someone else to do it.

I dont like cons.

As an interesting side effect, I have now grown sufficiently used to my gifted (much more modern) samsung phone, that I no longer really care.

The X-Ray specks kind of work, in quite an interesting sort of fashion.

They are cardboard glasses like early bi-colour 3d glasses, and have a small bit of bird feather in the eye pin-holes.

The result is that when you look at your hands (providing you have hands), you see what looks a bit like visible bones in your fingers, wrapped in slightly less visible meat.

I can personally recommend spending the $ on a pair of X-Ray specks, but interestingly enough, google cardboard (google's cardboard glasses for viewing 3D stuff on your phone) cost a similar amount, but are much better at almost everything you could possibly imagine.

But buy both if you can afford all four of the required dollars. (there are even less expensive knockoff non-google cardboard(s)

I think it might be the result of lightcancellation....

Or it might be just normal every-day magic...

Who knows (from wikipedia (oddly, no licence specified so I wont post the pic))... ... s_hand.jpg

Ahh the 60s.

When Ralph Nader didnt yet bother with such things as X-ray specks, and you could still get a real X-Ray in a shostore to make sure your feet were the right size. (I'm not actually old enough to know that)

I like "(stuff in brackets)",

I can remember getting my feet X-Rayed in the shoestore every time you bought shoes.

I think they stopped it because people's feet were falling off :laughing3:

X ray glasses were a con... I was not interested in body bones but the female body flesh that covered those bones...well that was different and how disappointed I was it not seeing flesh...with xray glasses
