Anyone know where I can hire a star picket driver in Perth? Tried Kennards and Classic with no joy. Time to put up the shadehouses :)

Cheers
Matt

Just tried two local bummings stores - no hire, one thought they might sell them, thought couldn't be certain and didn't know for how much! :laughing3: Gotta love em!

Just tried Coates and True Blue - neither of them do either. Looks like bees maybe the only ones - bit of a trek for me - might be best to try and buy one!

I've seen a few home made ones... A welder and some bits of scrap pipe, you can make one pretty easily..

I can buy one for $35 locally so will add it to the tool collection :)

Thanks cc -

I think investing in a welder is pretty worthwhile EB - the amount of things I could have done if I had one (and some welding skills!) Grow beds frames, gates, star picket drivers, fish tank frames.

Would mean I'd accumulate a heap more crap as anything weldable would suddenly have 'value' :)

What are you driving into Matty? If its sand you just need a piece of heavy duty pipe that will just fit over the picket and a couple of high tensile bolts about 1/3 bigger than the diameter of the pipe, or larger (they bugger up after a while). Stick the bolt through one of the lower holes on the picket and keep smacking it with the pipe.
BTW its better with two putting pickets in, even with a driver they tend to lean a bit.
I started with a milk crate and a sledge hammer but its hard work. :)

Just good old swan coastal plain sand so not hard, though may come across the odd tree root. I was thinking it would be handy to get someone to hold if vertical while the other drove. I'll keep my eye out for some metal pipe - thanks for the tip.

If you want to go the milk crate and sledge, get someone who you think is a *sigh* to hold it vertical.

A good sledge hammer or gimpy will do the trick.
