I've been hanging out on reddit a bit lately and some of the information on there is worse than on Facebook groups, it really is the blind leading the blind. If any of you are members of reddit for your other interests, please drop by the Aquaponics section now and then to offer a bit of good advice to the poor people having problems.

I don't even know what reddit is... but if the advice being given on it is even worse than Facebook as you say, then I would suggest the most helpful course of action would be to cut and paste links to the 3 or 4 leading forums with a suggestion that anyone wanting credible advice should look for it there.

I'm so over the couple of FB aquaponics pages I'm a member of... quite often recently I've been logging in, shaking my head and logging out... if reddit is worse than that, then it's a lost cause IMO.

I've subbed to r/aquaponics a while ago.

I met one person on there who gave me some quite good tips. We talked back and forth. Told me I needed a SLO pipe, why I needed a sump, and plenty of good tips. It depends on the person on there.

There is some crappy advice on there though.

I keep an eye on it for some of the good linked articles (although there are more newspaper articles where they go very very basic). Or good linked youtube videos.

I've linked a few people here though.

Some of the indoor efforts look sad on there.

I dont like the format of some of these sites. Maybe its because I am used to the BYAP forum layout which I find very user friendly. Things like FB and reddit have a messy look about them and I find myself turning off it quite quickly. Hopefully anyone that is serious about AP end up here.

Yep!... I had a look at that reddit last night for the first time... spent about 2 mins there and thought: "Too hard, too messy, never again!"

EB i browse reddit quite often but for my more serious interests I always go to the actual forums, that subreddit is atrocious at times, terrible advice, people spamming with their latest kickstarter and so on. i have found myself actually PM ing the link to this forum to a few people who were in need of advice because with the reddit format of upvotes and downvotes, when I'm stating things such as 100 fish in 1000L is a monstruosity from my pov I'll get lots of downvotes and a few negative comments a la 'shut up it works so you're wrong'

It really depends on what you're looking for on the website.

Reddit has masses of Subreddits, which are pages that are run by moderators, and they can delete links which aren't relevant. Some moderators are better than others, so some pages are better than others.

If you delete the subreddits that you don't like, like the ones that focus only on American politics, and change it to interests that you like, you'll come up with a far more enjoyable time browsing. For things like movie trailer releases, unbiased news on things like the Ukraine Riots (instead of the News Corp versions, and crap about Schapelle Corby), and interviews with celebrities that you (and a few thousand others) can ask questions to; it's quite good for.

TLDR: Reddit is good for quick information, in a wide range of interests, forums are better for more detailed information.
