I am not going to go any further or scotty will just get picky again.

Sleepe and I were just having some fun, nothing really to get picky about :dontknow: :) . It's been a long time since I studied these pathways but when you look at the reactions you need 3 Oxygen atoms to generate NO2 + H2O then another atom to go from NO2 to NO3. That's 2 molecules of Oxygen (O2) needed for Nitrification.

All these pathways scramble your brain after awhile :drunken: That's why it's nice that someone even tries to explain it so people get an idea of what's happening.

This document has some information on mineralization and a nice graphic. Down around page 41 if you can figure that out.

There is a useful chart on products of anaerobic fermentation (aka anaerobic respiration) of organic wastes on this website - http://www.fao.org/docrep/field/003/ab467e/AB467E05.htm

Yep you need caffeine injections to stay with this stuff

Oops - I should explain on that second post that Fermentation and Anaerobic Respiration aren't really the same - here's the explanation - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaerobic_respiration

The important thing is the list of breakdown products - doesn't really matter where they are coming from.

LOL, need a new thread, Conversations with More Really Smart Guys
FYI for those who haven't read the old thread it resulted in some people actually building something we called an RSG Filter (stands for Really Smart Guy Filter, to make use of denitiication and possibly even trying to chelate iron within a system.)

Good stuff but to be used with some care/caution so as not to let the situation get out of hand and cause system crash by letting an extreme build up of solids cause a system crash (mostly only a danger to those people who will attempt gross over stocking of fish with extreme under filtration and never emptying their settling tanks or cleaning out the bottom of the raft beds or never bothering to do any water testing till after the fish all start dieing.)

SLeyte_AP - I'm going to flag this to have the moderators place it in a new thread - you might get more answers this way although I can't think of anyone who's tried quite what you are.
