Of epic proportions...

I always thought that the backyard liberty mob were a bit dodgy, but just today someone showed me the download that they are charging for and it is a dodgy rip off scam!!!!

I know it's been mentioned before, purely because of their fear sales hype, but now i see what it is, I have a good mind to offer it here for everyone to download for free to see, because it is all free information they have stolen, and sell online...

They have stolen all of Travis Hugeys barrelponics manual, photos from this forum, and information and photos from the backyard aquaponics website. This is pretty much the whole content of their so called manual..

Man, I'm fuming.... :upset: And I haven't even told Travis yet, that they have reproduced his whole manual in amongst it...

Anyone know what the legal ramifications would be to put it up here free when it's all pirated information?? Surely they wouldn't have a leg to stand on??

Not having seen it I don't know but they might.

You can construct new copy rightable material by amage (I think that is the term) my legal knowledge is not great but it is enough for me to encourage you to take a deep breath...

and then post it for us all to see (after having checked with someone with some legal nouse).

Their name and sales pitch make them sound like they're based in the US to me.
If they are is it worth making a case against them over there? (probably a waste of breath I guess...).

Exactly... Hardly worth trying to chase them through legal avenues from a different country.. That's why I figure what do I have to lose by putting it up here for open slather... :dontknow: Possibly bad idea considering I've had 3 glasses of wine, so i wont do it now... But I'm sure thinking about it...

Travis's manual available for free..

I just downloaded it *cough* the pirate bay *cough*

I'm pretty sure whoever wrote it is based in Australia, or stole the information from Australians. They've got a section on fish that goes on about Barramundi and Murray Cods. So there might be legal routes if they are trying to profit off BYAP information

Seems like a bit of an end of the world/everybody is about to die group. Hoard all your gaffa tape and gloves to stock up against the mobs roaming down the streets. I think they know the demographic they are going for, and the website starts talking (and no off/mute button) about evil Obama. I clicked it off.

As long as gullible people are out there, there will be people taking advantage.

How much are they charging for it anyway?

Honestly EB, have a few more glasses mate. There will always be rip off merchants who will steal a lot of their content to make a buck. Odds are, the people who buy their content wouldnt have found the original stuff. They will have found someone elses fear mongering at another site and got information at 'a reasonable price.'

I have a friend whos old man is looking at AP and self sustainability etc. I told him to come here, all the info in the world he could want on AP. He still chose to go and buy someone elses info, that was nothing more than basic aquarium keeping with some plants somewhere.

Stress less dude :D

I got a response from them...

Hi Joel,

I've read your email a couple of times and I'm a bit confused. I'll try to explain why, and hopefully we'll sort this out.

I searched for your product online and found it on Google (used "Backyard Aquaponics download" keyword) and I've compared the two and found no similarities other than the concept of're using a barrel system and we're using an IBC one, you're selling a book and we're selling Book + DVD.

It could be possible that you're referring to a test version of our offer, from December 2012. Back then we were using a product created for us by a freelancer, and from what I recall it was using barrels. We made a few hundred sales with that product and it never went mainstream, as we were merely testing the offer's viability.
If somehow that placeholder product was using your content, I sincerely apologize for it.

Our current product, responsible for the bulk of our sales, was created by Nate Storey... an aquaponics expert and an amazing person. The product is based on Nate's 10 years experience with Aquaponics. It's also not just a book, but it also contains a step by step video, that shows how to make a simple IBC system, how to introduce the fish into the system, planting seeds and plugs, etc.

Nate Storey works with Murray Hallam on a project called Aquaponics Institute along with Rob Torcellini. Murary Hallam made a video series called Aquaponics Across America where he visited Nate Storey and 6 other Aquaponics experts (amongst them was Aleece Landis, another expert we work with which helped us update Backyard Liberty). He also patented a Vertical Aquaponics System. All this is public knowledge and can easily be verified with a simple Google search.

In addition to what I said above here is our download link, the one we've been using for the past 14 months, and were you'll find everything I said:

Let me say it again: if the product we used in our test run was a copy of your product then we sincerely apologize and want to clarify again that we didn't use your product deliberately (or else we'd still use it). It was the first draft of a freelance author at that time.

It was only a test run that one, only sold a couple of hundred copies, must have been the freelance author's fault.. I started to write a response saying, look mate, you sold it, you're responsible, stop trying to pass the buck, and stop trying to ride on others shirt tails, dropping those names doesn't give you any credibility in my eyes.... etc, etc, etc.... But then realized there's just no sense.....

They are low life... It's a shame that some of the people above ever did anything with them in any way... I think it's possibly the same people who wrote to me a long time back saying, "we are ready to run, we have outr marketing plans ready to go, our websites ready, mailing and contact lists, can we buy the ibc of aquaponics from you? Otherwise we'll just pay someone else to write something..

Ahhh yeah, de-stressed now about it... Tossers.... And their fantastic new manual? The proper one that they sell ATM for the super reduced price of $37?

Looks a bit like the ibc of aquaponics that you can download for free.... Basically how to build an identical system.. In fact I should try and get hold of it, they have probably copied half of it.. :dontknow:

What i would do is ask those people if they worked with him.
If not, send them all a copy of the email.

Thanks for posting that.

Is it true?

I don't watch much Utube but a few that I have watched and some of the emails that I've received from their website have rung a few bells. A few things that I made me think "ahh I'm not sure that is right".
